I don't have a licence yet, so no racing for me. Hopefully come February or March I'm racing.

I have no licence either - the day licence did the trick last week, but the discussion of whether it's worthwhile for the full year licence or not came up. If you miss a few races in the year you're better off going the day licence route (if you're only doing the once-a-month race)...
Not sure of the maths as I'm new to the race scene here, but that seemed to be the general consensus.

If you know you won't be racing a lot, perhaps hold off until July and get a 6 month licence and go the day licence option if you like. It's not cheap, I paid $270 last year.

We race year round as the weather is pretty good and on each Sunday unless the weather is really bad. As for not racing a lot, I guess it comes down to form/fitness, motivation to race etc. ATM I just don't have the money to spend on a licence sadly.

I hear you - that was me in 2010. Instead I just found more and more bunch rides, places to go etc. Take some time tojust ride the sh!t out of your bike and log some BIG km's. The motivation can come back when you are dropping racers because of the hard work that you want to do.

I'm just new to it and the guys I've begun riding with since moving here belong to a club that has a road race once a month. They tout it as the only monthly road race in sydney, and I haven't seen or heard of any others yet...
Like you I just don't have the dosh spare up front.

I don't mind doing long rides, I just enjoy riding my bike and I'm toying with the idea of biting the bullet and having a crack at Grafton - Inverall, I've never done it before and something I would to do at least once in my life. I've been told the climb up to O'Rielly's is similar to what I would face in Grafton. At the moment I have a lot of flexibility with work so I have more time to train.

Grafton-Inverell is a great race! Yes, the O'Reilly's climb is pretty similar in profile to the climb in Grafton-Inverell but it comes mid way through the race, so if things stay fairly close together over the climb there is a good chance you will stay with the bunch right through.

I just realised that I haven't done that race in 9 years! I have been talking about having another go this year with some club mates....

Nice results and must have been a good time. It snowed 8" here and I adjusted the derailleur on a bike I haven't ridden yet. TV was even bad.

Where are you and how much flying time from Seattle?

So Cal, Claremont to be exact. It was fun, early in the year but fun. Hoping to have some more fun this weekend if the weather cooperates!:)

Second race we just tried to hold it together for the sprint, a lot of work as Monster Media decided to come out and play for the first time this year, this is going to be a fun season!

This is what it looks like when you go after a trio of national champions!

It was pretty much single file for the 60 minutes!

Best we could manage was 10th in the 35+, we ran out of a little steam for the lead out, some guys were on their third race of the day!

@slowoldman, that team Monster Racing are now concentrating mainly on Master events?
Weren't they an Elite or so team last year?

Yes, they are and were. In fact, they won the cat 1/2's race that day. A lot of strong guys on that team. When they have numbers at the start line, it's going to hurt.

Have any of the American posters on here raced against Ben Spies and his team, and if so, how strong were they? IIRC they did some races in California, as well as in his native Texas.

I haven't. Looks like a very professionally run outfit though. Seems the majority of their racing is in Texas. Maybe they will come out to California for some NRC races?

Speaking of great looking kits, they belong in the kit thread.

Ahh I was going to say because in the Western Sydney there is road racing on every week. No idea about cycle cross though

I wasn't referring to the cyclocross, but their monthly road race.

What road racing is in western sydney? I'm in the inner west, so could be more convenient to get to.
