So, why isn't Carmichael more popular?

No. In fact, I don't know if Carmichael has ever used WKO+ (unlike, say, Tim Kerrison).

interesting that his CTS bio says he "played a leading role in advancing the use of power meters, aerodynamic testing, altitude training..."

Bet he can't make his own wind tunnel either.. :)

I don't know about the altitude part, but the other two seem to be at least plausible claims...think back to the 1990s, when Carmichael was still national team coach during Project 96, Dean Golich (who has worked with Carmichael/for CTS for years and years) was coaching riders such as Mari Holden and Alison Dunlap to World Championships using SRM data, and Armstrong (ostensibly coached by Carmichael) made frequent trips to the TAMU wind tunnel.

It was all a scam. Reading from Tyler's book, CC have nothing, zilch, nada to do with Lance. Wow. And based on that scam they made millions from books, videos etc. Come'on, there should really be a criminal investigation into the who Lance/US Postal issue.

Yeah true. When it comes to training there's also way better coaches than Ferrari. Like 'The secret race' mentions Luigi Cecchini having some good advice, maybe not really sound training advice but just good "lifestyle" advice in general, along with being able to ID weaknesses in a rider.

Ferrari knew it was all about doping and so I dont think he even bothered much when it came to training. I've never seen an example of sound training from Ferrari, other than testing for hematorcrit and testing threshold power.

It seemed Ferrari's riders often time just "rode" 'JRA" like vagabonds in a way with no clear goals.

IIRC there was a quote from a pro rider who was talking to Ferrari after a training ride when he first came onto the scene a day or two before a major race. It was when bike fitted power meter's first came out.

Ferrari asked what the device was and the rider basically said "It's a powermeter, it tells me how hard I am working, when I should be recovering and if I am peaking correctly." Ferrari walked away from the conversation struggling to understand the concept.

I suspect that Ferrari expected the rider to have their basic training and racing programs sorted and adapted his work to suit.
