Interesting read. Don't really believe that Armstrong would be ok with losing the Tour but maybe he's content on focusing on next year. Actually I don't think he originally planned to win the Tour this year but moreso the next. I was actually quite surprised when the team and the press started talking him up as a winner candidate.

Just saw Lance on tv. Said that they wanted Levi, Klodi and Horner for Radio Shack.

Taylor Phinney is definitely coming.

Taylor should have stayed with Garmin!!! I really like the kid, but this choice to join the LA "family" baffles me. Oh well, here is to his future success.

Does anyone know if they will be cherry picking riders off their U23 squad other than Phinney?

It's official - or has been for about 20 minutes...

I hoped it wouldn't be true but there's no denying it now.

http://www.teamradioshack.com

and they already have a Facebook profile :D
http://www.facebook.com/TeamRadioShack

They are apparently aiming for the TdF 2010 with Lance Armstrong.

EDIT: http://www.livestrong.com/lance-arm...in-2010/5687253c-7dc3-45d2-aae5-9d028d738b21/

Hope they get in. First year american team. Better have some Palmares, besides Armstrong.

How does a brand new team automatically get a spot in the 2010 TDF? Doesn't a team have to have good palmares to be INVITED to the TDF? So would that not put Team Radioshack into a wild card slot to be selected? I can't seem to grasp why LA thinks he will automatically be in the 2010 TDF? If you win the tour, does that automatically give you entrance into any tour after that?

Obviously not as Contador can tell you!!! However, with the ego that Lance has, I can definitely see him thinking it is his "right" to race the tour. I would laugh my **** off if the tour said not to radio shack!!!

In seriousness I hope radio shack does not knock out teams like Skil...who are obviously running a clean race and still being active!!!

I agree, it would be nice for the tour organizers to deny LA entry given his ego is just a little too big for the race.

Revenue. Plain and simple. They know he brings in the $$$$. They may b!tch and complain about him but ultimately he increases the bottom line.

I predict the average size Team Radio Shack kit will quickly rise to XXXLarge. Meanwhile the average Astana kit sold will fall to medium.

You just reminded me of a guy I saw at a stoplight in vegas one time in a pink/red fasso bortolo speed suit that looked like he was pregnant. I think the suit must have been sewn together from two different XL's to accommodate him. (Not hating on the bigger guys, just saying this wasn't a good wardrobe choice.)

Okay, maybe I need to change my name to fourpostfanboy, but this is just too funny . . . radioshack hasn't run one race yet but they have already doped:eek:

Can't quite get my feeble fanboy mind around this yet . . . how do you dope when you don't exist yet??

Ya, I know . . . LA, JB, blah, blah, blah

Where's the "I hate radio shack" thread?

This is why I hate idiots...you should all be castrated. God almighty. Skil has earned their spot...I would hate to see it disappear. clear anough?

1. conceding the point that lance has a huge ego, also raising the point that he's won the tour seven times... that goes a long way towards having the "right." i do still think he's being a little presumptuous calling it a "protour team" already.

2. re: skil-shimano: i love that fielding a team that has been 100% irrelevant at the tour earns the assumption of cleanliness. i have no reason to believe they're doping and i'm an innocent-until-proven-guilty guy anyway, but being a really crappy team doesn't really seem like enough to earn this rep. Personally, I'd like to see them get replaced by a team that at least has a modest chance of mixing it up. Like Bbox... not necessarily a tremendous roster, but always in the breakaways and challenging the stage wins. Skil? In a few breaks, but I'm not really sure if the peloton would even notice if the entire team abandoned.

What? Seriously...Skil have been in the moves all tour. And they have just as strong an anti doping stance as Garmin. Skil has more than a handful of top 10 stage finishes...they are incredibly young...and they have been active!! Stage 3??? I would rather see Skil than Radio Shack!!!

Nowadays the only way to believe a team is riding clean is if they ride like scheisse. Look at Garmin: everyone believed they were clean until VdV rode a great performance in last year's tour and Wiggins has done the same this year.

Yeah, seriously. Sorry, not trying to be provocative for no reason...

Sure, they've "been in" the breaks just like they've "been in" the Tour, but I've never really had the expectation of them winning or seriously contending either. Additionally, being allowed to be in every break might indicate a touch of apathy from the peloton? Thought process: who cares if skil's in the break, they're not relevant to any of the four jerseys and they won't win the stage.

Second, ostensibly every team and rider has an "anti-doping stance." how strongly it's promoted is all PR. Aside from Dr. Ferrari, I think everyone is "against doping."

Yeah, they've been "active." Point taken, but they haven't earned a combative number yet, have they? Until there's an "A for effort" jersey I don't see how Skil-Shimano's ever really going to matter.

Sorry, not trying to start a fight unnecessarily, but to me Skil-Shimano's pretty much a non-factor. As much as I think Radioshack getting in would be a jerk move, at least they'd factor in to a few bottom lines in a meaningful way.

Actually they have won an combative number in this tour. Just because you don't think them active does not mean they are not. And apathy? Give me a break..if there was apathy Big George would have had yellow...this is the tour...not a church sing along.

You will not change my mind about Skil...they deserve to be there and they are!!

lastly their doping stance is not PR...like the other teams including garmin...that is why you know nothing about it!!!

I hope you're kidding. But sadly, you are not. It's Lance= money, media, fans. simple equation unless he gets busted for doping. Of course he'll be invited.

And there is no reason he shouldn't be. The best teams should be able to participate in the best races regardless of their UCI classifications. When is the last time a Tour de France champion's team was denied a spot in the Tour de France?

Hmm.... not sure about this, but Cippolini's team was excluded the year he was world champion.
