So astana already failed to exploit their numbers once again, on the mortirolo team don't matter.

It's a terrible tactic to hope contador will drop at mortirolo.
I think their tactic might be to isolate him on the Mortirolo, hopefully get to Edolo with the usual trio and then let Aru and Landa attack one after another on the way to Aprica. Eventually AC will let one loose, the other will wheelsuck him all the way and hope he bonks or sth.

I doubt they can drop contador on that. Contador can even pace himself and let landa go.

Lando will never get more than 30 sec doing that knowing contador is the better ITT and it's pretty much flat, well false flat.

I think it's surprising there wasn't a much bigger group going away on the first climb. There aren't any other stages with the early climbs. Hesjedal is in the right place and can potentially catch the Astana train after the Mortirolo. A lot of other riders are going to miss that train

Hesjedal risks being caught before than though, however he seems to be very strong.

I didn't say it's the best tactic ever. Plus, if he gets anything more than a minute it would be a success. There are still 3 mountain stages and having Landa closer in GC would put AC in a worse spot.

Uh, it's raining a lot. I'm afraid of what what will happen down the descent of the Mortirolo.

Hello berggeit

Good it's a rainy day, hoping for some beautiful downhill racing and a great climb. I predict Landa can hold Contador's wheel on the Mortirolo, Aru gets dropped but comes back om the descent.

Well said. One of them can attack at the Mortirolo descent as well.

AC will attack himself, he could drop both, or at least Aru, Landa will have to wait for him

True, but this stage is the best left to make use of a great team.

Saxo won't let this go cause contador prob wants to win i guess

Re: Stage 16: Pinzolo – Aprica 177 kms:Where legends are mad

Now this giro would need someone like nibali who could put contador into troubles on the mortirolo descent.

don't this play right to Astana w/ their crazy form now. By mortirolo, contador will be isolated again..

Curious to see how the KOM pans out on the Mortirolo. Intxausti and Betancur are obviously very confident they can stick with the main contenders up it to drop back to the break after the first climb.

Landa will get the blue jersey at the end of today's stage.

Nah, I don't think he will today.

The Category 3 climb only awards a maximum of 7 points.

The Category 1 climb only awards a maximum of 32 points.

Intxausti is on 91 and Landa is on 54. So if Landa gets maximum on Mortirolo and wins the stage, he will move to 93. You would think Intxausti will pick up a few points on Mortirolo.
