the flu is a wide thing. he says he has a sore throat and fever. you can call that flu yes. not throwing up or diarhoea. you think a rider takes anti biotics for fun?

Fever?! That's crazy if its true. Must be like 0.01 °C or something.

Doing a mountain stage with more than 1 °C fever would be insane. Not only do you risk death but you can't be competitive since you would be exhausted rather quickly.

I am not doubting he is below top form, but I don't think he is that sick. He has seemed to be sub par this whole Giro if you compare to last years tour.

riders do ride with fever. I remember ullrich 2003 alpe dhuez. but I don't know how hight. I can't imagine it being too high because it can be dangerous

No one takes antibiotics for the influenza virus.

The flu is a viral infection and can therefore not be cured with antibiotics.
People die from the flu.

I hope there is someone cool going in the break.

Looking at the pictures from Gavia, everyone is going to be cool in a few minutes:p

Illnesses are part of the Giro. Always have been always will be. Happens every year riders fall ill eg

2014 Quintana, Pozzovivo
2013 Pozzovivo
2012 Rujano, Pozzovivo
2011 Rodriguez, Pozzovivo
2010 Sastre, Tondo, Pozzovivo

There seems to be a certain rider who has this every year :D

while i dont doubt the fact that teams indeed occasionally make the "slaves of the road" ride while having the flu and/or fever, let me just say that there is a significant risk of catching pericarditis or myocarditis while they are at it. and these conditions are no picnic.

IMHO such conventions are very questionable. and possibly bad capital asset management too, if one wants to think like that. riders should, in all situations, be calling the shots. I doubt that is the case.

on the other hand, star riders might also be playing mind games.

Don't you just love it when people can hold their hands up and say they don't know what they are talking about?

Right, race is on. Lets drop this rubbish and get back to the task at hand.

Now let's see how stupid the peloton is.

Petacchi-Uran-Paolini-Rogers thick chatting on the start line (from Rai tv images)
Petacchi asking Uran: "cosa dici?" means what do you say-think?
they'll see how the temperatures are on the climb.
I don't expect any action on the Gavia.
