It comes to this imo. IF one stage ends with break winning, Cav has won this. If both end up with GC contenders battling it out Purito should won this. But I can possibly see him finishing 5th twice meaning he won't win so it should be an exciting battle till the end.

After all the disappointment so far, I think people are a bit worried about getting their hopes up too much.
But I agree with you the winning GC rider on this stage will very likely be the Maglia Rosa in Milan and very likely after as well (unless Hesjedal isnt the one and he doesnt lose much time)

the finishing time limits after consultation with the organiser.
In case riders out of the time limit are given a second chance by the president of the commissaires panel,
they shall have confiscated the equivalent points awarded to the winner of this same stage to their individual
general classification by points even if their points total in this classification becomes negative.

So if Cavendish gets smoked on a stage...

Maybe I am missing something, but: what do you mean with capitulate? Why would that be necessary? Cavendish losing the stage winner's amount of points and Rodriguez picking up a few extra point would set Rodriguez in the lead?

EDIT: Maybe you meant that if Cav misses time limit and J-Rod gets a lot of points on the finishes then the intermediate sprints wont matter? I understand, then.

probably everyone will arrive again dead at the start of pampeago but i feel ivan has something extra.ryder will lose more than 2 minutes to him tomorrow.pozzovivo and purito will also be dropped by ivan,he just looks too fresh to be weak,he will deliver on the final 4 or 5 kms where differences can be huge

No doubt they are strong enough to drill the group up to 5-10 main favorites but what next?? He won't gain a lot for 4-5 k and he will never drop all the rest immediately as soon as Szmyd leaves him. My only hope for real action is if they will start dropping because of tiredness or some drama in Landis style. No one is able to represent a real mountain spectacle with a pure climbing strength

I also have the feeling that this is Basso's giro. But I still think Pozzo will take the stage tomorrow. He has the legs and the confidence (stage win, won before at Pampeago).

Oh I guess it was a bit of a miscommunication but when I was talking about the intermediate points I was reffering to the scenario where if they are equal in points and on stage wins it comes down to the intermediate points.

Of course that would be impossible even if Cav would finish outside the time limit as it would mean Rodriguez would still have to win a stage to be on par with Cav which would mean that he would have more points, unless of course on the next stage he also comes outside the time limit and then gets some points in an intermediate sprint....

De Gendt is starting to feel tired. Fears he had too many race days before the Giro, never expected to be doing so well already (was planning on doing the Vuelta for GC, not Giro). Hopes he can move up somewhat, thinks others are feeling tired as well. Two hard stages left, feels confident in the ITT, even if he took the day off, he'd still be faster than most other riders.

Why don't we have a Stage preview scheduling thread for major events (GTs only?) In which people can sign up / decide amongst each other who writes stage previews for different stages? I have seen something very similar concerning a different topic on other forums that worked out great.

It is certainly more logical and it is somewhat puzzling that is has not been implemented yet.

besides the forum get's messy in july so that thread could probably help keeping it in check in terms of stage previews

Yeah i would totaly ignore 3 high mountain giro stages just to preview a 3k mtf in september

And my point was directed at the claim that its surprising that there is no such thread already, pointing out that actually, its not surprising at all.

That thread should be hidden in the mod section anyway. If people know you are going to do a stage thread then thats losing half the fun already.
