Can't beleive that Purito's team has done nothing to protect the jersey... Its really theirs to control here, not Hesjay.
He's doing the right thing, Ryder is 17s behind and he has the most to lose. For Purito is Rosa or nothing.

No it's not. There are no rules that says the person in the leaders jersey is obliged to protect it. With the current standing Hesjedal is by far the favorite to win this race, so the burden is on him to protect it.

Why? Purito needs to put a minute or two in Hesjedal. And he is the guy who has been wasting energy in this last km's. Purito playing smart and well.

How does Ryder have the most to lose... Isn't the Rosa the MOST to lose?

I think Thomas will have a go here, Stelvio is his altitude training ground:D
if he can put 1 to 2 min into others, he might even have a shot into top5.

Yeah, remember that. Even did on a prev. Giro, I think. Neat! :D

Quite a contrast with Coppi's gearing on the same climb in 1953.
He'd have used 53x39 and 11x23 at a guess.
Just astonishing!

I think they have a little bit too many roulers and few climbers.
