Ganna shouldn't be underestimated, he is a double world TT champion and last year was just 12 seconds away from Remco in the WCTT. I was also impressed by his second TT of the Giro. Having said that, I still go with Tarling for gold,he was already one of three best time trialists during the last season so logic would say that he will be even stronger this year and I believe the rain also suits him better.

I do believe the two Ineos big boys are going to beat Remco as they had a better preparation for this race. Van Aert won't top5 and Sheffield is my dark horse for podium.

Dygert to beat Van Dijk and Brown in the women's.

Without Reusser here, I'm hoping for a Brown victory in the women's ITT. Dygert will probably either win or fail spectacularly. I hope Van Dijk is back in good shape, but the ankle injury came at a bad time.

Tarling may very well win the men's time trial. A lot will depend on the weather.

Emil Axelgaard, now at Danish TV2, pointed out that there's an extremely consistent pattern of riders having done (most or all of) the Tour de France not being at a good level for the Olympic TTs (but they are often good in the road races). So Evenepoel's preparation might indeed put him at quite a clear disadvantage compared to Ganna and Tarling.

It's also different between a GC contender and a dom, or for RR someone like Mathieu who used the Tour as a training camp.

Yup. I think this has been an observation made by posters here too. Regarding the worlds for instance, riding the Vuelta often tends to be a plus in the road race and a minus in the tt.

Men's ITT should be exciting I think... there are maybe ~6-7 guys who have a real shot at a podium... and if it rains more then that makes things even more unpredictable.

2021: 1:01 to 2nd, 1:04 to 3rd
2016: 0:47 to 2nd, 1:02 to 3rd
2012: 0:42 to 2nd, 1:08 to 3rd
2008: 0:33 to 2nd, 1:10 to 3rd

Should be the closest one since 2004 on paper I guess.

Which seems all the stranger as the RR has always preceded the TT until this time.

It might be that way, but I don't really get why. What's the reason? Or is it more likely just a coincidence due to lack of data?
