Was there some rule the road team picks also had to compete as track team ?

Ethan Hayter might make some sense, but Anna Morris ?? who has never ridden a world tour level race stage, pcs isn't necessarily so reliable on lower level race appearances which maybe one offs, but not exactly sure what the thinking is there, and why didnt they chuck her in nationals if she was their pick 🤔
Totally prioritising team pursuit to ensure able to take a reserve.
Ironically all the other pursuiters have much more experience and proven ability on the road.

The US federation has decided to give the second RR spot to Kristen Faulkner instead of Taylor Knibb, but it's obviously different when you have more than two spots to play around with.

That was always going to happen as Knibbs has next to no RR experience. I found it strange that Knibbs would even ride the National ITT when she had other cycling disciplines for the Olympics.

I agree, is it mandatory from the olympic games?
Don’t know but most teams already announced it so I guess. To put less pressure on the riders maybe. Nothing against the Visma riders but after Wout’s crash they couldn’t know his form. That’s just why I said it. And Benoot the same this Tour, I’ve seen him way better before.

If you have to get a teammate with a leader I would put the Lotto riders in their place.

Remco and Stuyven deserve it.

Also don’t know why you would give the names before the end of the Tour. If you see Campenaerts here I would always bring him. Same with De Lie.

Because the riders who are riding the Tour would like to know if they can go on a short break, or will need to head to the Olympics?
This year, of course, it's not much of an issue; riders can just catch a train from Nice to Paris, but in 2021, or 2016, there was a bit more planning involved.

I'd say you guys are being a little too harsh on WVA considering his previous performances in WC road races and in Tokyo. You kind of owe him a selection for Paris, despite a big question mark over his shape. And it's not like you would trust Philipsen and/or De Lie to win this race, or even get a medal.

Id pick Remco, Stuyven, WVA and Campy. WVA is still a lot better better than Jasper and De Lie in an event like this, and his form is slowly but surely on an upwards trajectory. Wout has been sprinting well recently as well, thats a good sign. He will be very good on stage 18 which will be the big stage for him.

At the European Championship De Lie was our best rider, even with Wout in better form than now. And he’s a strong sprinter after a hard race, dares to attack early. He would ride for a leader if needed. A good plan B for Remco, who would be my first choice with the small teams.
I’m just glad we’ve got a lot of strong riders. Hope Wout is getting 100%.

Think VWA will be the number one seed for the Olympics RR. I worry about Remco on technical circuits in which you need to do efforts in every lap.

I think it's way less technical than Glasgow.

Also, it's a smaller peloton so positioning (and having to close gaps because of bad positioning) becomes less important.

Only 90 riders at the start and I highly doubt they will all still be in contention once they hit the local circuit.

In fact with such small teams maybe the race might already be decided even before they hit the local circuit.

I think Remco thrives in such chaotic conditions and once he gets a gap it might be over. It's still going to be difficult though to beat VDP and/or Pog (if he still has his Tour form) because they probably won't give him an inch if they can prevent it.

Usually it takes eight days to get from Paris to Nice. It's not the same the other way around?

Looking at the startlist you can rule out at least 30 riders still being in contact with the main group by 100km ridden so positioning will naturally get easier. Small teams that are all leaders is ideal for Remco to launch from long range and use his TT strength
