So pretty much none of the current crop of contenders have ever ridden that distance in bad weather or had to cope with the Poggio descent in very sketchy conditions.
They've all done 6 hour cold rainy races it's nothing special. It's still zone 1.

Rain makes a difference physiologically, but they've all done such efforts.

Wet Poggio descent does make a difference.

I would love to have a time machine to go after Pogacar's retirement and see people's opinion.

You will probably have some people complaining about route change and that would be understandable.

That, however, is not needed (let alone necessary) now, as MSR is likely the most competitive, unpredictable and interesting monument right now. With the widest set of riders, with different skills having a chance to win it.

My point is: when Manie was introduced, we also had a unpredictable race.

But we have it now as well. What you're asking for now is to change a winning formula.

Also, I bet you and Salvarani wouldn't be half as vocal about a route change if Pogacar won the race twice so far, so that's how opinions vary depending on situation.
Every race makes tweaks and every race does it. All the monuments and other races has had major changes over the years.

What is evident is you dont want to because you dont want to see Pog winning and is afraid this would only benefit him. Dont be scared and so focused on him. There are a lot of good riders out there.

I am also not saying they should change the route, just that it wouldnt be strange at all if they did as they also have done multiple times.

Yavor, I always was very critical about removing Manie. This race needs more opportunities for attackers to be successful without jeopardizing sprinters (who can climb well) opportunities.
For example, Cavendish won MSR with Manie in the race.
I'm very critical about the addition of Cauberg as the last climb (like in the Gilbert era) and this will make even a more predictable and suited race to Pogacar. So this doesn't have anything to do with Pogacar.

Last time Manie was in MSR we where in 2013, 12 years ago.

The climb was far from the finish line (95 km from the finish).

The beauty of the races is the different type of route. Not every race and momument should have climbs or steep climbs.

Not every monument should be LBL.

Every race has is own beauty and difference characteristics.

It has been in the race before, just because it was a while ago doesnt mean they cant do it again at some point. It is up to the organizer.

It wouldnt change the race at all, because Le Manie is very much a part of the history of the race.

Winning formula? Do you remember how people were upset with removing Manie and not introducing Pompeiana?
What winning formula? A race that allows Demare to have a opportunity to win a monument should be automatically changed.
