If you're referring to Carrefour, they weren't racing that segment all-out until Wout attacked the Degenkolb crash.

Still impressive, of course, along with some of the other segments.
Yes, but we also don't know how Pogacar went in Carrefour. Did he go all out? Pogacar already told if he published all his rides, most strava records would be beaten. Of course he is hiding his true shape, this is why I think his ride in Carrefour is very telling. 2 seconds slower than MVP and he wasn't probably going all out.

Yes, in some way I know what you are saying and I have to agree.

If I analyze better, I am thinking more about avoiding a crash that will ruin his season than the P-R itself.
MVP is overrated in his technique. For me he is worldclass but he is not a god. He makes differences with his power, what is really outstanding about him, is his physical ability in 1-2' minutes all out efforts during 5/6 hours. Road racing is not cyclocross! Technique is less relevant.

I agree. Pog can handle him even with bad weather.

Well, now let's wait and hope for the best.

He is training like a mad man. He really wants it.

Wet cobbles (on climbs) mean roads more slippery and increase the need of pushing more watts to maintain a good speed. Of course on flat roads, technique plays a important role but not when you go uphill. Uphill, you need more w/kg to maintain a similar speed compared to your speed in dry cobbles.
Before anyone says I'm dellusional that I never rode on cobbles, just invite those guys to visit "Trás os Montes" (region full of hills specially due to "Serra do Marão") in Portugal, specially old small villages with cobbles even worse than PR.

Pretty ripping tailwind on most of his cobbled travels today.

Reiner H. is probably going to flag this ride because the N510 crown he lost to an obviously motorpacing Tadej (55km/h into a 30k headwind?)

Pogacar had a worse mental break after Combloux. This doesn't mean he is/was fragile. I'm a cycling fan above all and I want a peak Vingegaard to have entertainment in the Tour so of course I will cheer for Vingegaard (despite being a Pogacar fan) and show him respect. He is the only rider who made Pogacar look more human.
The two beatdowns they received were not similar.

Pogacar had an actual hard mountain stage after the beatdown by Vingegaard in the TT on top of a crash during the stage. Then factor in the year before when he got destroyed in the Tour. Vingegaard got a rest day, flat stage, a chill day for the peloton till the end, and then another chill day before the next big mountain stage. Vingegaard had time to come to terms that he wasn’t winning or good enough in 2024, Pogacar did not in 2023.

You are right but for me Combloux shocked more Pogacar than PdB shocked Vingegaard. I remember Pogacar was the favourite to win the Tour after the second rest day (according with us here in CN) so no one expected what would happen after Combloux. On the other hand, Vingegaard wasn't really threatning Pogacar before PdB. We had that enormous comeback from Vingegaard in stage 11 but Pogacar shut down any doubts about who would win the Tour with a fantastic solo in Pla D'Adet (not really a hard climb).
So the mental blow in Pogacar was bigger because he really thought he would win the Tour before Combloux. I don't think Vingegaard's belief after Pla D'Adet was that strong.
