You were not so sure before RVV too.. that Pogi will win.
I still feel like MvDP was capable of putting up a better fight than what he actually showed in the end. The small crash and probably a minor cold played a role, but still—there’s no way MvDP would have lost to Mads, and almost to Wout, if he had been at 100%. You could say Pogacar forced him into that situation, but still, it was a much weaker performance compared to E3 or MSR. Already on the second time up the Kwaremont, he could have been dropped if Pogacar had gone full gas (which was very smart of him not to), and honestly, MvDP looked vulnerable and poorly positioned the entire race. I believe everything he said in the post-race interview. It’s a bit strange, but even Pogacar looked vulnerable—just very smart. I still can’t believe this was the fastest Ronde van Vlaanderen of all time, with so many record-setting segments. Visually, it didn’t feel like that at all.
