I think Remco was underrating his level because he doesn't know how his level can be compared to Pogacar. I'm almost sure, without Pogacar, Remco would say he would race to win LBL. What he did yesterday just shows how good he is and he knows it (the way he got to the front of WVA before the sprint/final km). He just doesn't know how strong he is compared to Pogacar.
Of course, the kid broke multiple bones in December, has a nerve problem in a shoulder, so how could he have been overly confident? He knows beating Pogacar at Liege will be arduous, but he will also know now how competitive he is. Maybe lower expectations takes the pressure off and he can only focus on himself, which is quite good. To win in your first race back after serious injury shows immense class. Until the Tour everything else is a bonus.

That is not according to me. I don’t know what Pog will choose in the future.

I can only say what I believe are his best alternatives to target as many of the biggest races as possible and where he has the best chance to win them. Without risking too much in one year that can affect the future.
He does Tour-Vuelta-WC-GdL this year.
Next year, he will do:
SB
MSR
RVV
PR
LBL
Dauphiné
Tour
Canadian classics
WC
GdL

I don't disagree that the Vuelta this year is a risk.
However, at some point he has to take this risk if he really wants to win it.
If he waits too long, it may be too late. We don't know what the balance will be in 2-3 years.

Of course he wants to win it, but then he cant do this type of spring. Choose 2-4 as I put out.

Otherwise, he risking too much imo.

training is king, tahts the name of modern sports.training.no surprise with remco.he already did altitude,he should be in beats form.if not, than he would be in trouble.this is not plumbers era anymore.lol.
Pogacar hasn't done altitude and may be fatigued. Both has their own circumstances; neither of them is the most favorable.

Is this the first year Pogacar hasn't done altitude before Liège?
Last year he did it for his Giro training.

Do you know why he raced PR this year?
Because he was preparing to race cobbles anyway with Ronde and thought why not also go for PR at the same time, when he is preparing anyway and is shape to do it. It made sense. He skipped E3 and GW to ride more on the sections of PR.

He spent weeks to prepare for these two races. It is not just about the two race days here.

Now you have the Ardennes. which he probably has prepared for the absolute least. I think Remco will provide a very difficult challenge.

He never does altitude training for the classics. He doesn't want to be fatigued after classics (mental fatigue). His schedule is heavy so he needs time to be at home.

I agree but he raced PR and he thought he couldn't wait more years because in cycling you never know what happens to you. So he decided to target when he is in the best shape of his career. He will have the same thought about Vuelta.

I dont think so.

Trying PR made sense for both that reason and that he was in preparation/shape for it.

It is not the same story with the Vuelta this year.

It comes at a bad time after doing classics (cobbles), Ardennes and Dauphine + Tour. Where we will go up against MVDP, Remco and Vinge in their respective strongest field.

He should target the Vuelta within the next two-three years, but not this year after what he has chosen to do already. Just my opinion of what is sensible. Risk is high he will come close in all these races but the others will beat him and he risks overdoing it. Being very fatigued after the season, which he can suffer from. It is not worth that risk.

I think he has to sacrifice something to be fresher and stronger for all the races he targets. No matter what alternative he chooses, as I suggested.

This year he has to skip Vuelta.

Next year it might be cobbles or the Tour or the Vuelta or the Giro. You tell me what is most likely.

What does risk mean? Why is the Vuelta more risky than freaking Paris - Roubaix where Pog could have ended his season?
The Giro-Tour double was not risky last year? Attacking with 100 kms left in last year's World's was also risky but Pog did it.
I don't think Pog would miss a race because he thinks it's risky. The fatigue after the Tour will be the main factor.

But he will race PR until he wins. So you are telling me he should race Vuelta in the next 2/3 years. This means no WC in Montreal or Sallanches according to your logic.

Risk in this case is fatigue after the season he will have had and trying to go for Vuelta on top of it.
