That's not true. Tour Down under is a very special race to Pogacar.

And? The Vuelta is also special to him because it was his first Grand Tour and where he won his first stages. Pogacar has always said that the Vuelta is special to him, but he hasn't returned.T
his news doesn't make sense because Pogacar is currently prioritizing other things over nostalgia or early professional memories.

I didn't say he will race, I'm just saying it's not ridiculous to think Pogacar will race the Tour Down Under.

Starting the season in January doesn't make sense to him right now. It would be a mistake.

The Vuelta is just as, if not more, special for him, and other factors have prevailed.
Adapting the start of the season to January would be a bad decision.

Makes perfect sense for some early days and in a race/country that could be fun to just race. Especially, with the WC jersey.... before focusing on classics.

Can we ban the word "Vuelta" in here? Nobody cares.

I don't know if it's good for him. He knows better than us. However, I remember him saying he would like to spend more time at home with Urska. I think he needs going to Australia is not that great, specially when he will be far from home when he starts RVV.

RVV
PR
AGR
FW
LBL
4 or 5 days at home and then Sierra Nevada
Tour recons
Dauphiné/Suisse
Isola
TdF

He will just break after the Tour. I don't know if there is any possibility of Urska going to Australia but if she is not going, I can't see Pogacar going there to be honest.
I can be totally wrong though.

I think this is overthinking it.

If Pogacar doesnt want post Tour burnout feelings again he had better limit his spring classics schudule to monuments only (and skip Dauphine). Even then Vuelta would probably be too much ( due to neccessity of peaking for cobbled monuments, which is somewhat different and more challenging due to MVP). IMO its cobbles vs Vuelta choice given that the Tour is a must. Vuelta loses as long as he wants Roubaix

Dauphine or another is part of the prep before Tour, so he wont skip that.

His spring should probably be to do some early race and then focus on the classics.

Just like last season, basically. Starting with TDU doesnt really matter. Spending 2 week in Australia doesnt sound too bad imo. He still go home and have month or so SB. It like can early training camp with racing involved to TDU. Plus it is cool for him and the race for him to take part, if that is really the plan.

And it makes sense to try and win MSR/Roubaix while he still have the best chance to do so. Winning all monuments is something he really wants to do, few has done it so understandable to me.

The choice is kind of easy on what to sacrifice.

Tour of Slovenia is much less pressure and an easier build up. He almost peaked at Dauphine to beat Vingo convincingly. As for the rest of your post, surely he wants to try the most challenging one day races while at his peak, Vuelta has to wait now.

He doesnt want an easier build-up or avoid pressure.

I think you guys have it misconstrued.

The better preparation is to do Dauphine or Suisse. Probably the former.

It is not about making it too easy before the Tour. Having done very little stage-racing prior with the classics.

Some still seem to hope by picking "easier" races or limiting race days even more... that he will do Vuelta anyway... despite targeting all the monuments, Tour + worlds. It is very unlikely to happen in such a year and a terrible idea.

His schedule will only get interesting again when Worlds parcours doesn't favor him or he gets much older and decides to keep racing. Otherwise it's monuments + tour + worlds with little variation
