He was either a bit off today or saving energy for tomorrow, nobody really knows but tomorrow will tell, I think if it's the latter then he did the right thing, can't win every time the road goes up.

Thomas did the least amount of work before the tt of any of the contenders, he was positioned correctly at every moment in the stage, I don't think Ineos were going for the stage at any point because they hit the front on all the difficult sections then slowed down right after.

Yes, Ineos's tactics where weird. What where they trying to achieve by riding?
Put pressure on riders, hope to cause some splits and put time into opponents for 2nd place.

Nearly everyone rode pretty logically today. Nobody really wanted to bring the break back and make give Pogacar free seconds.

And do so without setting Pogi up for the win.

How great do you have to be in order to have backlash when don't attack every stage that is up for grabs?
People gave stick to the sprinters yesterday for letting the break win

This is the same

Pogi was the fastest from that group, yet his team didn't ride for the win or sprint. They were within 20 seconds with 4km to go. It wasn't much effort needed, but they didn't. If they chase down and then Pogi is outsprinted by Narvaez, no one would complain. But it felt like they just threw away a stage win

Maybe good sense is making room in UAE. Everyone will remember the double, no one will remember another stage win in Giro. Tomorrow there is a long, hilly TT.

No you just have to get disproportionate praise for your attacks for there to be a reaction when you dont. And it's not even that there's backlash

Tomorrow Pogi won't be merciful, I expect huge gaps and almost no one within 3 minutes behind him in GC (maybe only Thomas has some chances not to lose 2 minutes tomorrow).

If he's in fine form, I expect Pogačar to take at least a minute on Thomas and the rest tomorrow. Less than 30 seconds winning margin could indicate that we might actually witness a battle for Pink in the third week.

While Pog doesn't look red hot to me at the moment, that hardly indicates that Thomas is actually gonna pose any trouble for Pogacar.

It is hilarious.

Had the peloton came back and he had won the sprint it would have been twisted into "spending too much energy" or anything else that is predictable they would say.

Their narratives will always flip-flop.
