 yes, Hinault comes out everyday to flatter riders for their smile.

srsls, this guy is the badger, a walking curmudgeon that now seems like he wants to cuddle with Pogi.
lol. The badger was at once an original and also a reflection of the times. Riders particularly from differing European countries weren’t cuddling. That’s for sure

Pogi's papers are being peer-reviewed by the old masters and he's getting praised!

"He wins in the spring, he wins in the summer, he wins at the end of the season," lists the 69-year-old, five time Maillot Jaune winner. "He's the one who is closest to us, honestly. He attacks, he has fun, he's happy."

The Badger is full of sheet in this regard, because playing the "sport is just a game" card suited him well, only because the nation and establishment were on his side, whilst drinking a beer in a post-stage interview to an incredulous Lemond saying it's not settled until the TT. And then he got his arse handed to him despite Greg hitting the tarmac. Hinault should have said sport is just a "head-game" and the more devious you are with the system behind you, the more you get away with in return. Until hubris catches up with you.

...and willingness to throw it out there, risking the loss!
I would say this can fall under "do or die attitude".

Or as Merckx put it in the 2023 interview for Dèrniere Heure:

“When he goes for it, you can see he’s not thinking about the consequences. He doesn’t ask himself any questions. That’s real cycling, the kind that people love. Tadej is an exceptional rider and if he wants, he’s going to have an enormous palmares.”

Tadej Pogačar before the Tour:"It’s looked like I’ve made a step forward since the Giro, and my shape is even better than what I expected. I’ve done some good training, and I’ve tested my legs a little bit and to be honest, I have never felt so good on the bike

Now this looks scary. He just has to be careful that over confidence won't be his downfall like in 2022.

Still it took super strong Vingo (also with Rogla's help) to take him down. The question is if any rival will be strong enough this year to challenge him.

How do people here rate his chances for stage 1? Do people here expect he will have a go at it or not duo to the downhill and flat part at the end?
