Only time Ayuso likes to be in the front!

I kind of agree, Pog could make a difference there (rain the day before, likely a muddy race); but the route is similar to stage 4 of Tuor de femmes 2022 (some sectors are the same) and that stage was a puncture-fest, champagne gravel is way rougher than strade. Hopefully they've smoothed out some of it, but wouldnt' bet on anyone that day, really.
Indeed. Several riders will puncture. I saw that Tour de femmes stage. No way a rider will be helped within minutes. Maybe a teammate can give a wheel or even his bike. But anyway, if one of the GC-contenders gets a flat tire on one of the gravel strips, his GC-ambitions will be gone. That cannot be the intention of the organizers ASO.

Maybe that's exactly where Pogi has an advantage in 2 ways:
1. He is superbly "lucky" in avoiding punctures&crashes
2. Even if he punctures, he's the best rider to be able to catch up, provided he has a mate with a bike or a wheel.

I don't think that's an accurate description of his view on the matter. It would surprise me a lot if you could support your assertion.

Do you honestly believe that is his held view? Do you honestly believe that is the best characterisation of his stated view?

No.

But after his characterisation of Bonette as 'nothing special' and this, I am confused and do think he underestimates altitude.

Once again taking a subsplit off a bigger climb.
It was like on Passo Foscagno. Between 6.7 and 6.9 w/kg in the last 13 minutes....it doesn't make sense just taking a subsplit of a bigger climb.

It was 6/6.1 w/kg in 35 minutes. The whole climb should be considered, not just the last 13 minutes.

If the first part of the climb is in slow pace, obviously the rider (whatever rider is) is more fresh to push more power in the last kilometres of the climb.

Naichaca's time (41,24) is much lower than the official 42:27. Is it because he measured till the top of climb while the official is to the finish line? I don't know why it's like that. If 6.43 is true it's a huge number obviously for 41 minutes (VAM of 1855 m/h looks consistent with it) but maybe those watts estimations for climbs from ends of spectrum (super-steep, super shallow) are a bit off.
Angliru is the perfect climb for these kind of numbers. It is steep, low altitude and is usually paced hard just as it was last year. Short and not very hard stage before Angliru also helped.

Sounds legit. I believe everything that comes out of the superteams
40s with the new bike. And the old bike was already 30s faster than the previous one. Then there is Pogi's new training regime, detract another 30s. New socks, 5s. New helmet, 30 seconds. Better nutrition, 25 seconds... Soon they'll be going back in time.

Same with Visma's new helmets. You have to wonder how good the other guy's helmets are, because since Visma has been using those helmets, they have been left in the dust by my grandma on her tricycle.

This was just setting the stage for a shock. You can’t show who you really are if they already know who you really are…
