True aswell, as of the Tour line up, but in the other races? The Giro was a forgone conclusion and in Liege there was no one to challenge him, neither was there in Catalunya. You can make the point that no one is remotely close to him this year, so it doesn't matter. But than the point would stand, that he can't expect noone to be near him forever.

Just to be clear: I think doing the treble without really preparing is is probably a stupid idea.
Yes, the first part of the year was filled with a series of races where there was an odds on favorite and then daylight to the next best rider. And the results were as expected.

I think he should have competed in Paris. Form of his life, possibly the highest level a rider has ever reached in modern cycling history just before an Olympics and with no guarantees for LA 2028 aged 29. I think he risks a career without an Olympic win which seems incomplete for him.
Olympics is not the end of/be all for him and he has a medal.

This route doesnt favor him. Difficult to make much of a difference on the climbs to get away for him and it will be very hard to control.

Winning worlds would be bigger than the Olympics.

Olympics would simply be a nice touch and a nice stat, when it comes to cycling.

Winning worlds after winning the double would mean so much more.

He probably needs a break now mentally more than anything else. Do some crit races and enjoy himself.

I wouldn’t select him for the WC if this is the type of behaviour he shows. I find it extremely childish. He is letting his country down.
Riding the Giro-Tour double is no excuse to be tired like genuinely who pissed in your bed? OL is second tier compared to WC let someone else have it even though he is the best expecting him to ride everything is not fair.

. OL was never in his plan when they planned his program to begin with.

Just realised Merckx didn't win a monument in the year he did the triple crown (only year he missed in 11 years. So if he wins the WC even without GdL there's a good argument it's the greatest season ever.
Still Lombardia left too. WC and Lombardia was always the original plan to begin with when they drafted the plan last winter regarding the double. I actually don't think he is done.

I don't agree with the reason for cancellation. We can all pretend that this is because he's "tired", but it's because of his girlfriend. It's childish, and diva behaviour. When the WC comes up, then he does want to represent his country, because it suits him more.

If "doing it for country" is a thing in sport, he's put Slovenia on the map just as few other of their top athletes have done. I come from a country with little sport achievement and generally strong nationalistic tendencies, our best athletes make people happy when they do well anywhere, including when not bearing the country flag, and we know there is more than slaving yourself for country's honour in a trife matter called sport when your heart doesn't feel like it.

You can assume that I don't.
And the double and then citing tired its not hard to believe but when the plan originally was never to ride it that's the outliner for me.

You can have a different opinion of course . I think its been the plan all along and besides that definitely the best move. Rest is important now - he gonne need it like Evenpoel and others that WC route is awesome for both, that will be a awesome WC.

It's been the plan all along, which is why he said at first he wanted to ride the Olympic Games. If it was the plan all along, he would've said beforehand he would skip it.

Pog did more for the promotion of our country than anyone except maybe Doncic. He's the reason for all the Slovenian flags you saw on your television on Sunday. Noone here thinks he's letting anyone down.

If anything, it's Slovenia who is letting him down by not selecting his partner to join him in the olympic team though she deserved it by merit. Did you check the results of other two girls that were selected? It's a travesty!

The people have spoken.

Still I dont think it was the original plan it might have changed since its tempting with those legs who knows that might be the case since it changed sure but nevertheless I think its the smart move.. Its clear he has better coach and advisors in everything regarding this stuff than the past, its more carefully planned throughout.

@Berniece do you know the whole story? I'm sure there is two sides of the story.
There is people saying the Slovenian NC women coach have abusive behavior. I'm not saying that's true, but that we don't have the full pictures. So don't think you can call him childish without knowing what's going on.

I thought Roglic was more popular in Slovenia compared to Pogacar? Or that's what I read on this forum. I'm not from Slovenia, so I can't really say much about it.

Check the statement in februar they state the plan. OL was never in the original plan.
Even if it was I would argue its the best move for him after the double but it never was.
When they announced their schedule on the 18th of December 2023, they said he would ride the Olympic Games.

Maybe he is though it's not really that clear anymore. But that doesn't relate to anything I wrote in my post. The flags on Sunday were not there for Roglic and the way Pogacar promotes Slovenia abroad has nothing to do with the perception of the two at home.

If anything, it proves my point that it's more Slovenia letting Pog down than the other way around. Though to be honest, I'm not a fan of drama that much and would just accept he is not gonna do it and move on...
