First of all, Pog doesn't deny Urska had something to do with it. But still claims fatigue as the main reason. Fatigue of the head, he says.

I can't understand how people can doubt he wants some time off from the circus. OG would prolong his press duties if nothing else for what, 10 more days at least. Yesterday on his reception event in Ljubljana, he said "sometimes, one just wants an ordinary day. I hope tomorrow, for me, is an ordinary day". And yet here we are: a 25 yo guy who wants to have a bit of vacation and there's suddenly this whole controversy around it.
I don't think it's a controversy. Sometimes the issues can be more about the messager than the message. Racking up posts is a sport, too. It's basically a non-issue with the athlete so real fans would get off his back, I'd assume.

In this particular case, I think it is not something you should be proud of.
In the biggest sport event, and one of the very few in which you could represent your country, you're letting such thing decide whether you're participating or not.

I truly believe the experience of last year's world championships is the main reason for his non-appearance here. He was close to fainting after finishing and only managed to find his level just in time for Lombardia two months later. He also said that he never wants to experience something similar again.

But to your point, I don't really agree... Wouldn't sacrificing something important actually be something to be proud of if the idea was to show support to someone through a non-participation?

God please make it end
Something really quirky about information, or the lack of information. Roglic w a broken back and you still get a wait and see from the team. And teammates and organization of UAE keeping any belly aching amongst the talent hush, hush. It's completely logical, if you are trying to build the brand to roll the dice for Pogacar to go for the triple. And that will cause inter-team trouble for sure if riders w high hopes are told to wait while Pog gets more, stays at the buffet making everyone angry w his gluttony!! If UAE looks at the field rare opportunity to win 3 GTs in a year.

In his career he will have a clear path to maybe 4 or so more world parcours (guessing). Some better suited some less. But never will he be this close again to three GT in a single season. I get it is risky but the easiest of the three is sitting right there for the taking. No guts no glory!

Having already spent six weeks riding laps around farmers for just two big titles I would find it quite boring to do it for another three weeks.

Meh... I personally think the olympic games are totally nonsense for Tennis players and elite men road Cyclists.
They shouldn't even be there in the first place.
It's somewhat of a lame event.
In cycling, a WC is infinitely more prized than Olympic gold.
Cycling is a team sport and even the great Pogi has to yield some for the sake of the team. Let the boys have a go at the Vuelta.
Definitely.
The WC for sure, but even Monuments imo.

Ofc exactly. Its second tier its still good and nice to have but its still second tier at the end of the day. He also already have a medal so its just a nothing burger. And the part its right after the Giro-Tour double which havent been done in 26 years in the fashion he did even makes it somewhat cringe.

Word. The WC jersey would be a prized possession. That route and field its gonne be a banger.

I don't care if he will burn out but I want to see him in the Vuelta. Zero competition there! This a life time opportunity. I don't want to wait 50 years to see another Pogacar. Just give Almeida the chance next year of riding and lead Giro-Vuelta.
Pogačar knows the value of a team. He has the best team in peloton, period. With them, he can win anything any year. By being greedy and racing everything and not letting good riders in his team going for their own results and glory would bring problems, bad mood and probably some leaving. He's won A LOT already and he can still win A LOT more. But not without a very good team. Besides, he wants WC win A LOT more, then Vuelta this year.

Boy wonder grew Up!

Crazy stuff; wonder how it will look if someone gives him a proper fight next years Tour.

Hehe yeah. But would UAE really let schedule get in the way?

I guess it’s team Pogi that thinks the risk of negatively impacting his long term performance are too big.
Or maybe they are just waiting for the August training numbers to tick in.

It does indeed make much more sense at least from a sporting perspective for sure.
Only part moviestar does is the spanish ties/connections. But who knows what Ayuso thinks and IF Evenpoel comes to Red bull I guess that would contradict that theory. But personally would much rather see him in Bora aswell.
Should go to EF, he has the perfect accent for those little tete a tetes with JV.

in a recent interview Pog said after last years world championships he was incredibly depressed and burnt out and it took him a long time to recover. There was also a lot of disappointment around him failing to gain Slovenia a second ITT spot at the Olympics. I think all this probably has to do with the Olympics exclusion although I imagine if Urska was picked he would have gone just so they could have some time together.

UAE are kind of getting a taste of their own medicine with the vuelta stuff if it’s true he can’t go purely because of team politics. You can’t sign every up and coming superstar and give them all the same leadership opportunities if you also have Pog in your team.

I wonder if he actually wanted to do the Vuelta, but I think you referring to the comment where he says the other guys also need their opportunities? It might be the smartest thing in the end, but on the other hand he can really achive something historic here...

I think he probably would consider it if the team supported it. It’s going to be a pretty weak field where all of his big potential rivals aren’t going to are injured. I doubt he would have to put out huge numbers to win. From a doing the triple GT perspective this is probably the easiest it would be for him.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if Urska pics up more races and all of a sudden he is interested in going because he’ll be bored after a week or 2 at home.

Also, the WC, which is a huge goal for him, plays a part, I think. If not for that route this year, maybe there’s a higher chance. He wants it, and I just think that also plays a role.

It would be interesting to see how much they’re afraid of the triple actually hurting him because that’s the biggest and only reason not to consider it—at least from our perspective it doesnt look likely agree but its hard to know also from a outsider perspective, first time he did two GT lets not forget.

It might be genuine concern from the data all im saying, not saying I think that, who knows. At the end of the day its some sort of unkown territorium for them aswell and if it is a legitimate concern, it doesn’t make sense.

Wait for it -- like Krzysztof_O said

''There could be a bombshell i.e.
With the team we decided that stretching my legs in the Vuelta will be a good preparation for the WC! I'll help Joao and Adam and I'm not planning to do the whole race but who knows what will happen on the road...'' ;)

Gutted he has sidestepped the Olympics. Giro/Tour/Olympics would be far more epic than Giro/Tour/Worlds and cycling as a sport is diminished by the absence of its biggest superstar on the global stage.

If it’s because they are secretly trying to plan a form peak to take in a tilt at the Vuelta to do the triple then all would be forgiven.
