Teams & Riders Tadej Pogačar discussion thread

When I was comparing the Remco results vs Pog, I realized that this year he won every race he started, except MSR, where he just got third? Not counting single stages ofc, but that is immense.
I have a feeling he is going to regret skipping the Olympic road race. Probably only 2028 for a realistic chance and a lot can happen….

And btw Remco first goals for 2024 was Olympic gold. That is what he wanted most of all, his next goal is winning the TDF. He said it when planning 2024, and even his father confirmed it after the road race. No way he is trading them golds.

As for the discussion, IMHO no way Remco would trade his double Olympic gold medals for one Tour title.
Dont know if your serious or joking?

If your serious you guys are not really discussing this? Ask Remco and he wouldnt even think about it the answer would be yes before you could finish the question. Seems like some people dont quite get what OL is in cycling at all

Fun note i did talk to Remco during the Tour and if you think thats a real question for him ur in for a surprise let me tell you, the OL was a side piece in his prep it all was geared towards the Tour if thats not clear enough then nothing i can say will, doubt Remco himself could at that point ill make sure to bring it up.

@vwpe

No way. Another GOAT talking about his gold Olympic medal:

Nole said winning Olympic gold is his biggest achievement in his whole career. And in my opinion Tennis, although not being a real sport, well, it's rather comparable to cycling. When it comes to comparing pro career vs Olympics. So Remco would in my opinion trade his (potential) next set for one Tour title, as for current set of Olympic medals, no way. He would say GTFO.

Pogacar has 3 TDF and 1 Giro, including a double this year, winning 6 stages in each GC.

If you want to compare Remco with him, go ahead.

I like Remco, he did an awesome feat yesterday, but the gap between him and Pogacar is massive.

You can mock all you want, but Remco is not winning any Grand Tour Pogacar is competing.

But of course he can fight for scraps in the GT Pogi decides not to run.

It doesn’t take anything away from him, he is a great great rider. But he is no Pogacar.
This is correct

A bit different in Tennis where the 4 grand slams are broadly equal value compared to the value of the 3 grand tours in cycling. Especially as nobody skips a grand slam in tennis to be optimally prepared for the next one as people do in cycling by riding Giro-Tour being uncommon.

He wouldnt say that but he wouldnt think twice trading it for TDF.. His prep was geared entirely for the TDF, OL was a side piece if thats not clear enough I dont know what to say to you and ive actually talked to him. Carry on this with someone else i find it rather bizzare nothing else.

Finally someone. Remco is great but he first needs to show he is stronger and has more watts than Vingegaard first still before even thinking about Pogacar that much is clear.

Preference for a certain rider or not, facts are facts and those are that Pogacar beats Remco in almost every aspect. Can Remco take the WC? He sure has a chance but he will need all the help and luck he can get. Without WVA he would not have won the OL and should Pog have been present it is quite likely the outcome would have been different.

On the specific note of Pog he has proved that he can trade with the best puncheurs in the world (eg MSR, RVV, Amstel etc), do long range devastating attacks (eg SB), handle all types of terrain (eg stage 9, TDF 2024), win in big mountains and on the TT bike (TDF 2024). I am very curious if he also c an win a specialist races like Paris-Roubaix.

Politt talking a lot about Pogacar and UAE in a German podcast, which is summarized in this article: https://www.idlprocycling.com/cycli...we-win-this-one-too-theyre-going-to-get-angry

Some interesting insight (like Tadej didn’t eat enough on the stage where he lost the sprint to Vingegaard), but also some proper b*llsh*t like this:
"That Tadej went minutes faster than Pantani, you can’t really compare that anymore. Our bikes are now 6.8 kilos, back then they were 9 kilos. All our equipment is tested to ensure it’s the fastest: helmets, socks, base layers... That wasn’t the case before."

No, and you the have burden of proof since you called bs.
I thought it was common knowledge that the bikes in the 90s weren't heavy monsters, but apparently not. Here you can see three different sources:

Approximately 6,96 kg with pedals and bottle cage.
