Jens Voight seems in no doubt ? After reading this I wonder if the concern about Pog's wrist is BS?

And the crash, as terrible as it was in the moment at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, forced him to really take a break. So every cell of his body is completely regenerated. He will be as fresh as anything, hungry, he is the man to beat

Great racing today. It bodes well for an entertaining Tour hopefully.

Pogi looked good, today (stage 1). The wrist doesn't seem to be a problem. He's going to be strong in this TDF.

Well it's early days... Of course first stage is lots of letting the pressure kinda out but three weeks will tell if he starts ripping out every small climb intermediates when there's none aso, it eats you out like before.

I expect his shape to be similar to last year, he is going to be very strong.

But, I can’t see where he is going to drop Vingo. Maybe the bonus seconds become all the more important now and he won’t have to drop him but will have to follow.

I think hardcore fans (of both) who want to see their favorite rider smash the Tour are probably going to be disappointed.

Logically this duel will be decided by a matter of seconds at the end. That's what happens when two riders are so evenly matched in the mountains & in ITT's. I give Pog the edge because he's a better sprinter & all rounder; insofar as he doesn't go crazy & tactically lose his marbles like last year.

But what evidence is there for them being evenly matched? Finishing s.t. on a hilly stage? Tbh I don't think Pog looked overly convincing. Him not following Großschartner and not attacking after Yates' pull was weird. Maybe he wants to conserve energy but then why even bother setting up an attack like this?

I don't see Vingegaard dropping Pogačar, at least not anything crazy like Granon or even Hautacam last year.

Maybe a handful of seconds on Loze but that's it really.

We'll see.

Vingegaard could potentially lose time in the ITT against Pog. It could really go either way there.

If Pog keep taking bonus seconds... maybe it is Vinge that has to drop Pog at some point. Not the other way around.

Yates could become very important for Pog as well.

Not a convincing team effort from Jumbo today. They had the numbers but Kuss and Kelderman wasnt strong enough to pull back the Yates brothers here, who were going full gas tbf. Van Aert was tired in the end.

Lets see what happens next.

Are these super steep climb really what suit Pog the best? Yes, he's good at it - but very few of his victories have been because he's been extremely good at 3 minutes super steep climbing.

Yes he won Fleche this year, but to me it felt a bit like a slightly weak field and it was very close (11 guys got time within 3 seconds) and he's been slightly underperforming compared to expectations at previous attempts on Mur de Huy.

I think Pog is better on slightly gentler gradients, and that he couldn't drop Vingegaard today isn't a big surprise imo.

What didn't suit Pogacar isn't the gradient or the type of effort but that it was essentially one climb where the peloton went down from 50 guys to 3. Pog likes his repetitions.

I mean, he did not really even try to drop Vinge in any moment. Why should he carry the full gas attack 11 kilometers then, to gain maybe 2 seconds. He raced tactically perfectly today.
