the modern day Fignon

Going to get mauled by Vingegaard in the high mountains and mauled by Remco in the hilly stages for the foreseeable future

I agree, but his best shape wouldnt make him finish with Kuss and 6 others.
He would be at least 30 secs in front.
I'm not sure, the high mountains just aren't his forte, compared to everything else. And Kuss excels in the high mountains, compared to everything else.

Last year he was overconfident during the Granon stage, this year he was overconfident even before the Tour and despite his poor preparation.
Super strange take. Pogacar being compatitive and not showing too much weakness before the TDF does not equate to being overconfident.

Even so, he still said Vingegaard was the favorite .

I really don't understand how Pogacar should have acted in your book.

Tomorrow he will get spanked by Vingegaard. Even if he was in peak shape, he can't drop Vingegaard so how the hell he is going to take 53 seconds?

No... why would he say he felt really bad about this preparation before the race even starts. Of course, a rider wont downplay himself like that. Everyone knew it was always gonna be tough anyway but if he had no belief or not willing to go to the biggest race in world, he shouldnt have started at all.

He still seems to be in good enough form that he can podium or win a couple of stages.

It is also still a long way to go. Maybe he will ride himself into better form or something happens to Vingegaard. Maybe Pog drops out. Who knows.

I agree compared to everything else, but still, when in top form only Vingegaard and a top Roglic can beat him.
Today he had trouble even finishing with the group.

What I was afraid of the most is unfortunatel y the current situation. Pogacar is far from his current form, probably due to his lack of preparation.
He can't even drop Kuss.

Definitely not his best performance. It's still too early to say if it's due to a hampered preparation or just a worse day. Stage 6 and 9 will give some answers regarding this.

Guys, I hate to break it to you, but Vingegaard is just that much better.
I don't think he's this much better, no. Preparation matter, and his preparation wasn't optimal whereas Jonas' was. Acting as that doesn't matter is quite disingenuous, and we can only speculate how much (if any) the difference would have been with a 100% Pogacar on this climb.

Yates' yellow jersey is the worst thing that may have happened to them
Doesn't matter one bit. If they didn't ride hard the entire day, Jonas would have had Benoot and Van Aert in the valley and we are talking 1.30.

All this pseudo tactical stuff doesn't mean jack when Vingegaard is just THIS much stronger.
