Its interesting joaxin martxin said in interview with cycling news that the idea with the giro tour is trying to race conserved on the 1st week of giro. The only good news for ineos and co. Atleast pog will make the race interesting until prati di tivo
It makes sense to ride safely the first week but IMO that's not always possible without some effort. You still need to stay in touching distance of credible threats.

That sounds like serious gamesmanship or excellent athleticism triumphing over colossal lack of awareness.
Did Boogerd or Oscar tell that to the press? I'd love to see a live version of it.
Freire stories are basically all anecdotes from former Rabo riders. Forgetting the shoes and switching them happened in the breakaway live on TV.

It's 2024 and we're still acting as if common sense applies to Pogacar.

Detraining because the Giro is too easy is a bigger threat than fatigue.
This is never a problem with Pogacar. Even his personal trainer says he is so much faster to get in shape than others.

Even if this is true, I'm pretty sure Pogi will still nuke every MTF in the first week. Looking to Prati di Tivo, Oropa, San Vito and the TT, it is impossible to think someone will be under 4 minutes from Pog.

You counted Kuurne, but not Zuri-Metzgete

Who on that list would even have had a chance of winning Zuri-Metzgete? You can't really blame Pogacar - or other current riders - for never having won a race that ceased existing before they even became pros.

As i said before and sorry havent been on here after the race in Liege. I was so fortunate to be in the car with Roodhooft and when Pogacar went everyone was just like yes well podium it is.

Its very rare what weve seeing now, I dont think theres a single soul inside cycling who doesnt think Pogacar is the best cyclist of all time already, its truly remarkable the way he does it aswell and can only be compared to Eddy. For me Eddy is still the greatest but yeah its pretty common knowledge Pogacar is the best cyclist of all time from every rider and DS ive spoken to basicly this seems to be a foregone conclusion, its really special.

Also what a performance for MvdP, I think he did better than he honestly hoped for since like he said too, he definitely didnt have the robauix legs he couldnt have been happier for a podium. Winner of Robauix and podium in Liege same year speaks volume and was definitely celebrated.
wow thanks for sharing. I couldnt agree more either.
hahah what a boss

I think the first stage of the Giro will indicate the approach Pogacar is going to take. He could win it solo, probably easily, but he might chose not to. Immediately in pink, immediately having your team have to ride for the rest of the Giro. It’s easier to just keep calm in the beginning. Will also help for TDF preparation.

Reading the boss from Uae statement they will ride giro as ''training'' he said if he could use that word and plan was to get stronger going out of the giro than going in so a training ride. If anyone can win the Giro as part of traning its Pogacar. Lets see indeed what approach they/he will actually do.

Well two of them actually won it: Bettini won it twice and Rebellin once.
Meanwhile Kuurne wins were counted for Boonen and Sagan.
Zurich was at least twice the race Kuurne is, if not more...

It will be interesting. Very difficult to ride as training if you’re chasing down breaks and controlling the pace as leader jersey. But it may be more about the team not riding as training. Probably have to analyze if pogi needs any of these guys in July.

Anyone listen to the cycling podcast Giro preview? They had an interview with the UAE head of performance.
I was listening as I go to sleep so its a bit foggy, but quite interesting.

He lost the tour in 2022 because he missed a feed and was double teamed by Rog and Jonas. (If this is true why wouldn't riders have a gel or 2 taped to their bike in case of emergency?)

New coach, Dr. Inigo Zone 2 has been canned and now Pog is doing way more intensity and better understanding and training the ability to do mega power after a long day of calorie depletion and workload and said this was evidenced by his long attacks in Strade and Liege.

My main takeaway was look the f0ck out next week

The propaganda around Pogacar is running wild everywhere. They are doing a great job this season.
