I didn't follow this properly anymore, but how come Pogacar can wear shorts that don't match the jersey? Thought UCI first made an issue of this. It's OK now? Makes sense btw, it's a stupid rule

A couple of days after that news came out, UCI eventually gave the green light for Pogacar to wear the pink-ciclamino skinsuit combo. That’s why Pogacar wore that during the TT and also today. I agree it was stupid of UCI to make that a big deal in the first place.

Weren’t the shorts meant as a one day commemoration of a past tragedy or something? Wearing anything other than pink or team colors seems weird unless I’m missing something.

No, the organisers felt that full pink didn't look particularly good, so they've made all shorts for the special jerseys a slightly different colour.

Ultimately this is something that UCI and organizer must sort out as an individual rider has no power whatsoever and can't make a decision or take responsibility instead of them. In this story Pogi hence doesn't play any role beyond being the current holder of the leaders jersey.

Partially for sure such tension was raising in the peloton, especially after Pogi pulled and denied Narváez. So i don't believe that was the sole reason, for Pogi to not go for the stage win at stage 10. But it likely was one of the reasons.

Hearing the rumours about UAE telling Poga to ease off to give other teams a chance to win is lowkey killing the excitement I had for the remainder of this giro.

If this means Pogacar can win this Giro and still leaves himself with adequate reserves to be competitive at the Tour deep into the 3rd week then so be it.

For me the excitement of seeing someone achieve the Giro/TdF double for the first time in 26 years exceeds what happens this Giro.

But I think the lack of genuine competition is the biggest killer of excitement this Giro . That’s not UAE’s or Pogacar’s fault.

Not sure how to take this quote but sounds like he's been ill as well? Perhaps a factor in UAE chilling out a bit.

“I’ve seen a lot of guys getting sick, but I’m getting better. I’m almost OK,” Pogačar said after the stage Thursday. “In the peloton on the day before the rest day, there were a lot of guys coughing and snorting, so I hope they are all right.”

He said so a couple of days ago, that he’s not sure if he’s caught a cold or if it’s just allergies…
