I think UAE needs to get rid of Visma doms on Galibier and force Jonas to chase down Yates/Almeida. They need to make repeated attacks with 2/3 riders (Yates, Almeida, Pog). This is the only way UAE can drop Jonas in the current form. Isolation+ repeat attacks until he's too tired or just keeps his eye on Pog but someone else will build the time gap advantage.
Jorgenson will be crucial for Vinge. That is my worry actually, can Jorgenson hold for 3 weeks? And what level will Kelderman be at compared to UAE doms. Will Jumbo LAB counter this weakness by making mountain stages hard on the early climbs by using Laporte, Tratnik, Benoot and van Aert to tire Yates, Almedia, Auyso out, so they can't be as effective late in the stages?

UAE team can have all of the "watts" in the world. If they won't work as a team and have their GC guy wasting energy or being constantly out of position, they will loose this TDF regardless of what Pogi does.

Jonas is never chasing down anyone but Pogi, they tried a little of that last year to no effect. Jonas will have to put all his egg's in one basket.

The "make it very hard" tactic also have some risk. If Jonas somehow is close to normal, this is what he wants and what Visma has done the last two years.

eveyr tactic is arisk, but uae was meant for long climbs, not flat or short climbs like this.pog attacked once he heard roglic is being dropped by yates.yates basically blown up everybody with short effort.that was unexpected.if ayuso can get form back, thye will isolate jonas easy and than attack.

Him not dropping Vingegaard isn't that much of a disaster, he slightly messed up the attack in my opinion going way to late and giving too much draft. Plus there is still a solid chance that Vingegaard doesn't have the base for the later stages.

However him not being ahead of Vingegaard, Remco and Carapaz by a single second after the opening weekend where tons of bonis were available is definitely a letdown. Something which I wouldn't put on him tho but on the team. What the heck are they doing? This is a Telekom 2005 "superteam" show, no cohesive riding, questionmarks over the role of certain riders (Ayuso) and no apparent strategy. First the random pacing and stopping yesterday and now the no show on San Luca except for Yates. Doesn't bode well at all for Galibier.

That’s the problem with having 4 GC riders. Gotta get the doms to lose time to ensure full commitment to the cause (depending on the rider), and to not have to ease off every time one shows weakness like Ayuso stage 1. It should get better once gaps in their own team are established.

Personally I think it was a good day.

It's just Vingo that outperformed expectation that's all. But I'm not too surprised, they wouldn't let Vingo do the TdF if they thought he didn't have a good chance to win.

And actually if anything if I was Pogi and UAE I would rather know now on stage 2 that Vingo is ready rather than go to the Galibier with no clue....

Also Pogacar been clear in interviews about trying to save energy and the way the team has ridden it follows that path atleast, and hes one year older now it might be hes getting smarter? Its just very unusuall and unothodox from him so many properly over speculating me included over something that doesnt need to mean anything, but it can not saying anything definite. The team has spent little energy, he is in Yellow after two stages you cant gain to much on if were honest? Alot of swada my point is only its to early to tell and also the way the team has ridden should tell something what the tactics have been and is so far. Stage 4 will tell more I believe.

lol no,you shouldnot bury ayuso, cause he showed weakness on 1 stage.he can be crucial on climbs.both remco and roglic look very droppable and startegy is to be strong on climbs.nobody in uae expect that tour will be decided on stages like this.visma looked in problems, cause it looks like only jorgensen can follow and even he is droppable.plan is to isolate jonas as much as possible and destroy his team on climbs.this gives you by far best chance for win.if he still wins in that scenario, well than he desreves it.

Visma lease a bike van tech has been trained to identify “at least Tadej Pogačar” in all race footage,.lmao,we can laugh, but visma is still next level.that van is future, they can see, monitor and calculate everything now.people dont understand, how will this change cycling.no watts wasted anymore, slightest weaknes exposed.this will make statistical revolution in other sports look like circus show.

He cannot get a bottle without Vingegaard jumping onto his wheel. Taking the marked rider stuff to a new level.
legit:tearsofjoy:
He should be conservative. Just save energy until stage 19. People are always expecting Pogi to animate the race so he should sit on Vingegaard's wheel and do nothing more than sucking his wheel.
Agree on this the team also stated so far clearly the way they ridden conservative so far has been the memo. Lets see.

Given how quickly everyone else was blown away by Pogacar's acceleration, I'm genuinely surprised that Vingegaard held his wheel. Very good signs for the fisherman.
Vingo was right on his wheel. That jump Tadej timed to close the corner like a serious SoCal Crit demon would do. It took some serious fumbling through a narrow gap to begin a chase so they were alone. Jonas had the benefit of not charging up 1km of a hill at that pace on Pogacar's wheel so his ability to spin up on the descent was easier than it looked. That said; he wasn't looking to put time into anybody until Tadej was politely insistent that he take a pull. Message; "I can't make it alone and would like some help, please." Otherwise he would've found a way to drop him. Jonas spent the right amount of effort with his team to be in the right place at the right time.
Frustrating to watch Roglic and a teamate jambed on the right side barriers as Tadej took that attack on the left turn. It looked like 6-8 riders came to a standstill like they had no idea what was happening.

This sounds so incredibly boring (not your post, I mean the actual van thing).
