It's just kind of funny you have the need to come up with excuses on behalf of Poga and diminish the work of Vinge. He was beaten today, why cant you guys not applaud Vinge for his impressive efforts that lead to victory in Pogas territory.
Read my post literally a page earlier. I also dislike excuses of any sort. But we can still have a discussion on what happened. Because its also not normal how weak Pogacar looked in the end and how he rode the sprint on the small chain ring.

Do not see the point to discuss and compliment Vinge in Tadej Pogacar discussion thread. You are welcome to discuss in butterfly, chicken or whatever is called nowadays thread.

Pogacar leads by over a minute, just lost a stage in a photo finish and somehow it's still looking like it's all going away from him. I think his team should probably start riding defensively from now on, just fast enough so he can outsprint eberyone for stage wins and get bonus seconds

Last year dynamics shifted in 3rd week. This year he lost tailor made stage for him at the beginning of 2nd week and has Giro in the legs. I love him but would not bet on him right now.

something happened. there was too much difference between the attack phase, the increase in the advantage on the descent and arriving dead at the finish line without even having the strength to sprint. Ofc cannot be the Giro fatigue 😂
Vingegaard happened, that's all. 100 meters longer on Puy Mary and he has him there. Without Vingegaard there today he wins a minute to Remco and it starts to look like a second edition of the Giro. But Vingegaard is here. No bonking, no Giro legs, no huge defeat, he's fighting with Vingegaard who we know is a hell of a rider. The question with Vingegaard is if he won't miss something in the third week, due to the far from perfect preparation. The race is open, Pogacar didn't lose the Tour today, he didn't have a bad day, it's just that Vingegaard is good. But Vingegaard will have to drop Pogacar to win this, that hasn't happened yet.

This. Vingegaard needs to decrease the gap and can't wait for the TT to make it. Pogacar "just" needs to follow Vingegaard and outsprint him.

Not really.

But I think there they underestimated Vingegaard and perhaps, judging by the gap to Evenepoel/Roglic, he also overestimated himself.
Possibly true, but I also believe he was somewhat uncomfortable after his wheel slid descending Pas de Peyrol, and that was well before he was talking to the neutral service moto for whatever he was asking, be it drink or gels.

Absolutely.

The good old SKY-way of winning the Tour :p

But I would still worry about the ITT in the end.

maybe the penny will drop with UAE that in trying to tire JV they are just exhausting their own guy. Pog needs to follow Vingegaard and try to mark any attacks - JV is not aggressive in nature and prefers to counter

I think today Pog messed up his fueling. I think he deals with the fatigue quite well. After his initial surge and fast downhill his glycogen dropped and he was begging for a bottle from the moto. That's why he looked miserable on the second climb.

He and the team went one climb too early.
Go one climb later near the top and they see you again at the finish line.
If he went on Pertus, with how strong Vingegaard was, I think Jonas would've been able to go with him there. Maybe the difference is he could've actually won the sprint. Or maybe it would've been the same result because he was still underfueled.

You take this a fact just like that? You think a superteam like UAE would screw up fueling after what happened 2022?

Maybe fueling played a part, we just can't take it as a given until we know more.
To be fair (and not judging this particular theory) - UAE is a super rich team but not necessarily a super professional team from all I have seen over the past few years.
