I mean, this Tour went perfect for Visma - Almeida out, rest of UAE pretty weak, Pogacar with a crash, Pogacar sick (sore throat and stuffed nose) and yet Pogi still leading by 4min. Thats actually pretty impressive.
Could also say the opposite. If Adam had been at his level, Pogacar would have won on Saturday.
And let's not even mention Almeida. With Almeida, Pogacar could put the pace he wanted.
I was watching this interview and he never said that. They are either twisting his words a lot or just trolling for clickbait. He indeed said there were some points where he was suffering close to his limit but nothing about "I knew I could follow him and stay in his wheel"/ "I didn't need to 'overcommit' myself" etc." Vingegaard attacked a lot, but I knew I could follow him and stay in his wheel," commented the general classification leader. "I didn't need to 'overcommit' myself; I didn't want to overdo it and risk a counterattack from Jonas behind. I tried it once, but I didn't want to hurt my legs. I climbed at my own pace . "

I think Narvaez' accelerations are what destroys Vingegaard's legs, not Almeida's pacing.
Almeida's pacing doesn't matter much if both are closely matched, as the last MTF's suggested.

I think its now clear that Jonas is at his expected higher level in the 3rd week thanks to his better preparation compared to last year.
Great stage today but Pogacar won that battle albeit narrowly. Much more to come in the Alpes.

Almeida is out, but UAE has been impressive.
Nils Pollit has been amazing in several stages (seriously, what a f***ing unit). Tim Wellens as well.
Narvaez did a fantastic job in 2 stages already, both netted Pogacar a win.
Soler and Sivakov have been solid... ish.
Maybe we can say Adam Yates has been underwhelming?
Visma has had it way worse.
I'd say Victor Campanaerts has been great and Kuss has been good.
Jorgensen was a complete no show in the 2nd week and today as well. This is a massive disappointement.
Simon Yates won the Giro. He should have been stronger so far imo. Today was a perfect stage for him to show something, but he was dropped by Kuss.
Benoot saw him today on Mont Ventoux and Affini was useful in the ITT, but that's it.
All in all UAE have a lot of reasons to be happy with their rider's overall performance, while Visma is probably hoping a couple of them can still show up for the 3rd week.

Today Vingegaard needed a full train: Wout, Kuss, Yates, Jorgensen.
What actually happened was Wout pulled for 1km to drop Jorgensen and then Kuss for 5km with a pace that only reduced the gap to Enric Mas from 5m45s to 5m00s, yet still managed to drop Simon Yates.
Does this seem enough work from arguably the strongest supporting cast in the Tour to you?

Visma could be saving Mateo for the last two mountain stages as well. I would not write him off.
To me it seemed like they had Pogi on the ropes, couldn't quite do it though but it wasn't for lack of trying, and certainly not for lack of team support. You conveniently manage to ignore the two satellite riders who clearly played a role as well. If Vingegaard had been able to drop Pogi clearly he would have been in a lot of trouble. Meanwhile what did UAE do for Pogi today?

Keep in mind only one person is saying Pogi peaked too soon. Other than possibly yourself if you agree.

I think you are confused or maybe you quoted me by mistake.
But with a higher pace, acceleration also does more damage.
And I still think Vingegaard's time trial is conditioned because Pogacar pushed him to the limit the day before.
