When I climb from 6,000' to 7,000' and above my maximum pulse rate is almost 20 beats below what I can do at sea level. Yes, I know altitude training has scientific evidence (Adaptations: more EPO - More oxygen). But we also need to see the mental part of this training. 3 weeks away from your GF and doing nothing but training/eat/sleep. Pogacar finished the Tour very tired so I believe this altitude training would not be good for him just like last year. Mental freshness is the most important thing for WC and GdL.
That said; without the acclimation I would not be able to climb to those elevations with any serious power either.
We all act like Tadej and Jonas don't have a pressurized sleeping environment closely at their disposal. Master's amateur racers do so it's neither cost nor portability challenged to set one up.
