Because all Belgians are required by cult, blood, law and peer pressure to root for Belgians. You know this. You don't think I rooted for Van Wilder to beat him at the WCC?
On a serious note, it is different because he is indeed a countryman, which you have wilfully rejected to then cheer for... Real Madrid.
Whats your problem, really? We choose to root for whoever we like. Im not shaming you for rooting for Remco, but it seems you are trying to do that to me. Why you do that I have no clue other than that I know it must be extremely hard for you to grasp not necessarily rooting for countrymen since being Belgian seems to be enough for you to root for them.

And you definitely wouldn't have liked to root for a Belgian Eddy Merckx reincarnitated. That would have been boring! And you still didnt really answer my question - why do you root for Evenepoel in time trials? Thats so boring!

Jonas didn't seem to have any issues Vuelta 2023. I'm not saying Almeida would've won the Vuelta, but I think he was doing better before his TdF crash.
Jonas was sick first week of Vuelta 23 and also after that clearly not himself. He lost first ITT against Kuss(!!) and pretty badly against Roglic. Then he was allowed to attack because everybody in his family and all friends had birthdays. Roglic was already one minute in front of him at GC and looked better than Jonas in first two weeks. He wasn't allowed to follow Jonas. After that he "gifted" Vuelta to Kuss, but everybody forgot (so fast) that he actually stole that Vuelta from Roglic).

Give them a break, times are difficult for non-Pogacar fans. Eddy is too scared to unretire and face Teddy so their only hope is that Coppi resurrects somehow. Desperate times, indeed.

First of all, I'm poking fun. I'm not trying to shame you, I am trying to pick your brain. You don't like to cheer for countrymen, ok. And you don't like to root for boring riders.
Personally, when I am not rooting for other Belgians, you know as required by cult, blood, law and peer pressure, I will always root for the underdog. I personally find it boring to root for the overwhelming favorite. Unless he is Belgian, but again I have no choice in that matter.

But its still not fun rooting for Remco in time trials, right? Or do you like when he wins easily?

The point is that Jonas 2023 didn't had any issues riding 2 GT's.

Pogacar was an underdog in the 2019 Vuelta and 2020 TdF. So you are a fan but if he starts winning too much, you change your favorite rider?

I know that you think that's funny, but it seems to me you are dodging that question since your main question was you couldn't understand how one could be rooting for a dominating rider. Alright then
I actually already answered that question. During national championships there are other riders i root for. If Evenepoel weren't Belgian, i would only root for him to beat boring mister Universe. But if he would then be riding against Healy or Vacek, i would not. I can root for one rider in one race and root against him in another.

Yes, i liked both Pog and Rog initially. For Rog it's different, not really because he became too dominant, but because he lost his chaotic and attacking ways of pre 2019.

Okay, I guess you are a superior human being then. Gongrats! I will try and try and TRY to root for Valentin Madaous and Laurens Rex next year in Tour of Flanders, but I can already tell I will be having a hard time. God bless the underdogs.

Was there ever really any doubt?

Seriously man, everybody roots for who they like. My posts are for fun, not to criticise. And i am well aware and also poking fun of chauvinism, but that's also part of the beauty. Think of all the decades these Slovanian suckers didn't have anyone to root for, lol.
Actually now that I think about it, I obviously root for WVA in Flanders and every other race he can win, so I guess Im rooting for the underdog and therefore its probably more even.
