Pogacar isn't the favorite for Roubaix, but Vermeersch is even less so. Last year he couldn't keep up with Van der Poel for a single meter. The idea of overtaking sounds good, but with MVDP and Alpecin after 2023 in Roubaix is impossible.
I just want to remind that Philipsen has been second two years in a row and last year he was the rider who go with them for several kilometers, not Vermeersch.

The same old argument. Pogacar isn't the favorite, but he's the only one close to MVDP in that race, but it's better to focus on a rider who can't even keep up with Philipsen.

Last year Vermeersch was stuck in the group behind when it exploded. He couldn't go to the front, because Pogacar was there and he would've brought along other riders.

It makes sense for UAE to give free reign to Vermeersch in Roubaix. It is often a free for all in the last 80km anyway.

I don't think this is contraversial. Much like at Alpecin Phillipsen has an element of freedom.

Ultimately the road (and in Roubaix often luck) will decide the selection. If they are both in the selection better two cards than one!
