From Dan Martin's chamois memoir, Chased by Pandas:

"Perhaps because of the oil economy in the Gulf, Team UAE Emirates was seen as having an unlimited budget. Mauro Gianetti also wanted us to embrace spectacular innovations - obviously within the limits of the anti-doping regulations."

"Within the limits of the anti-doping regulations" screams grey area doping, dodge TUEs + suss as heck meds like levothyroxine which aren't banned by WADA, despite calls for them to be added to the List.

But UAE at that point (2018-2019) couldn't even get its energy drinks right, so it can't be that.

Should one do the best job they can within the rules, or deliberately do less of a job based on morals, and where does one draw the line?

I am ok with the phrase "within the limit of the anti-doping regulations"

and here are the TUEs granted by the UCI year after year

I would say that their little "energy drink" fiasco was just the beginning of experimenting. I think Sky took a bit of time to get it right as well.

The list of medications that you can be prescribed that could enhance performance, depending on the individual, is getting really long. And of course how medications are used has such an impact. That grey area of taking something because you need it, versus taking it because it has a beneficial impact on your performance, is growing. All sorts of drugs can help with weight loss ... all you need is to find out what works for you and a prescription to address the issue.

Oh my, racist much?

Open your eyes, the UCI has a consistent track record of corruption at the top and ties to some pretty suspect folks. French, British, Dutch, whatever.

How does opposing racism make me a racist? There is no worse than a person like McQuaid who went to UK-backed apartheid South Africa in the 70s to race while the rest of the world boycotted them

Pog will dominate this tour. But in this modern time nobody will get caugh, being super human is part of the attraction to this show (its more show than sport)
Pogacar is going to run away with this TdF worse than Froome ever did. Just look at the guy. He's mysteriously added 20 pounds of pure muscle to his upper body. He used to be scrawny, back when he was dominating, and now this year, his shoulders look like a middle linebacker. His steroid use is on steroids.

In today's race, he easily beat Vingegaard to the top of the climb for the points, then at the finish, he easily beat Van Aert in a sprint to the line. So apparently, he's the best climber, and also the best sprinter. Whatever stage he doesn't win is a stage that he doesn't want to win.

Granted, Vingegaard won the overall last year, but if I remember correctly, JV jumped TP to win ONE mountain stage by enough time, and after that, JV played defense, and just held on to win the GC. Since then, TP has beaten JV in every race, and it hasn't even really been close. Whatever doping JV is on is nowhere near the level that Pogacar is doing.

I think we're in for like 5+ years of Pogacar running away with the TdF, and any other stage race he enters. No one is even close to competing with him.

I am a Pogacar fan but this is just wrong - are you joking, if so I don’t find this amusing?

Have you ever seen what a Grand Tour contender looks like? They are very slightly built. Extra muscle, particularly in the back, shoulders or arms doesn’t help you ride faster up mountains. What we did read of Pog before this Tour was that he dropped his puppy fat. So to add 20lbs of muscle he would need to lose more than 20lbs (9kg) of fat - not possible.

No, Vingegaard and Wout also dropped Pogi on the hautacam and JV beat him in the TT.

The take above is kinda over the top, but IMHO Pogi seems to have improved his punch and raw power short efforts. We'll see how it goes.

Giannetti bois are ready.

Lol, if Pogacar added 20 pounds of muscle mass he would be absolutely destroyed in the mountains by Vinge, who turned the Tour into a featherweight fight.

He lost the sprint to Van Aert. This whole post is very weird. Did you even watch?

TP really never sees a stage he doesn't like. It's wild.

I'm amazed that road cycling seems to have a new, young-ish fan base who are either clueless or purposefully blind to the PEDs usage going on. (This is purely my viewpoint from comments on vlogs, blogs, articles, etc. Skepticism seems to be gone in a new, younger generation of road cycling fans.)
