I wonder how they figured this out so fast, because I couldn't see it on the photo.

How did they decide that?

I would also like to know that. If the picture they showed is all they got it looked like dead even. Higher resolution pictures?

Obvious stage is obvious. But still, a lot of work, skill, determination and teamwork goes into it. Chapeau Kittel and Quickstep.
Almost jinxed that. Chapeau to EBH as well, that's about as slim a margin as you'll see, and way to step up for your team.

But... they were completely even.
Why, then, was Kittel declared the winner?

At this point probably they just listed the provisional order given by the transponders on each bike and are still analysing the pictures.

If Eddy had lost that he has made a big error, almost looked like he misjudged the line as he didn't throw the bike until a few metres afterwards.

High resolution and make it a close up and then decide!

At this point I hope Kittel wins 6 more so Prudhomme can realize how hopeless he is.

He never will.
Bring backe Zomegan! We deserve that Crostis and Zoncolan stage!!!

That shows how a great leadout can make a lesser rider beat the better riders. Would have won with a better bike throw.

Dang,

Despite having idiots like Aldag and Hammond on board, DD have ridden well and deserve something out of the tour. Would have been nice to see EBH win a stage after so long too.

However they came to that result, it was very impressive again by Kittel. It was a strong man's sprint with that tailwind - quite limited drafting benefit from 5km out, but he still had the strength to edge out classics specialists like Matthews, Degenkolb, EBH and Kristoff. He's obviously in amazing form to come round those guys in that kind of finish.
