That's the squad I would select.

I think Rabo are overrated a bit, they won the Tirreno TTT but that was with mostly powerful classics guys like Flens, Langeveld, Boom, Tankink. Maybe Boom will be there in the Tour, but I'm not even sure about that. Their Tour squad has guys like Garate and Niermann, who are okay time trialists, but not great. And Luis Leon hasn't done a decent TT all year.

Lotto didn't do that bad in TTTs in the past. I'm sure they will do very good here.
Don't forget they have Gilbert to go ballistic. That yellow jersey is the only goal he has left for this season.

Wait, what? He'll certainly target the Worlds and fall classics. Not sure why you are saying this, Gilbert is always hungry for more.

Yeah, we need winter classics :(

In all seriousness I see him win these races this year(that have yet to come)

1-3 stages in the Tour de France
Clasica San Sebastian
1-2 stages in the Vuelta a Espana
Paris-Tours
Giro dell'Emilia
Giro di Lombardia

:D

I really hope he wins the nationals as well, but I don't see it happening.

Am I right in saying this is only a 20k TTT? I can't imagine there will b massive time discrepancies, maybe 1-2 minutes at absolute most. The only realistic contender I see losing over a minute in samu. I don't expect conti to lose much of any time and wouldn't be at all surprised if saxo finished top 5.

Contador and SBS will lose time on the TTT imo, however, it wont be huge amount of time.

His most important goal, i meant. I think his two biggest ambitions this year were LBL & Yellow.
Fall classics he has won before. Didn't sound very enthusiastic about the worlds course, didn't spoke big ambitions. 2012 and 2013 will be better suited for him.

He even says that 2012 - 13 are for him, I think I read somewhere he has looked at both routes in person already ?

The TTT is only a small part of the whole race. More interesting is what might happen on the Passage de Gois.

I don't know whether routes are set... But 2012 will be in Limburg, the Netherlands, and they'll probably copy what they did in Geelong. Start somewhere around Venlo, snake down for about the 70kms or so till you get to Amstel Gold territory, and do 200km worth of circuit there. Gilbert's proved he can handle that territory already.

2013 in Florence.... They could do almost anything with that, although it will probably be plenty selective for Gilbert to make the difference there.

Its before the official depart, so its the start and isnt being really raced on.

I know he doesn't like the course, but knowing Gilbert he'll go for it 100% anyway. It's in his nature, it's not his choice. :)

I hope those that get the head starts get mechanicals along the way to take that time back.

So you would like a race where an element of skill is replaced by an element of luck?

Why?

The Hitch (aka AsturianCyclingFan) knows his boy Samu is in the shit with the ttt.:p

Euskaltel is as bad as it gets in TTTs. Samu should be happy with 1:30 lost.

1:30 which will in the end be the difference between 3rd and 7th on GC.

Lame ****.

Samu will lose some time, but it won't be that much. Not much more than a minute. HTC and Garmin will do well. I'm wondering about Sky? I think I heard somewhere that they're working hard on the TTT, they see it as a chance to get Wiggins in yellow. Well, I guess they won't get that many chances.

I can see BMC doing better than saxo if GEL is not riding. although BMC does not have one super super TT rider. the team has many decent prologue riders and im sure they will do just fine.

I would argue ttt is a lot of luck. Sure some guys choose wrong teams, but its also a case of which team you grow up with, and what nationality you are, things that have nothing to do with skill.

Cadel Evans is a much better tter than Ivan Basso, but he actually loses 1.30 in a ttt in the Giro. Where is Bassos skill there?

Its actually more a case of me not wanting to see Schleck and Gesink get a big headstart.

A minute is little?

To beat Schleck the secondary contenders like Evans Samu Basso, need every second they can get and Schleck to make a lot of mistakes. Starting a minute down is losing any hope before the first 200km have even been completed.

Even against his rivals for the podium, losing say 30 or even 20 seconds is a big effort that rider has to make to gain back that time.
