it seems early 2017 scandals took something out of the whole Sky team, they look pretty crap

This is the year to defeat skybots
Erm. They've won a monument, a classic, Paris-Nice, a giro stage, Tour of the Alps, three other WT stages (including one on Alpe d'Huez), and even the Hammer Series. This must be one of their best hauls since 2012 coming into the Tour de France.

It seems like. Henao + Landa + Nieve + Poels + Thomas, + Kwiatkowski seems like overkill on this route, though. Wonder if either Landa or Nieve will be left out. Landa seemed all but certain that he'd be in, so that leaves Nieve.

So I suppose it's either him, or an additional dom for the flat stages?

There's no such thing as overkill when it comes to Sky throttling the Tour. The advantage of having Thomas and Kwiatkowski available is that they can slot into the mountain train or be superb rouleurs as needed, so there's no particular need to take extra flat guys. If Sky are concerned about Froome's form (it's not clear that they are), they will be more likely to go with the most extreme version of the climbing train of death.

They will only consider saving anyone to get bottles for Froome in the Vuelta if they are super confidant that the Tour is in the bag.

i would also imagine Froome to save yourself (for Vuelta) during last stages of TdF if he'd had comfortable advantage (minutes). it would also "show" the public/fans he's still at least partly human (like last year' s faked fatigue/illness when lead was easily manageable and fully under control after the piss throw incident)

He never said he was ill last year, he was ill in the 3rd week of the 2015 tour, you can hear it in his voice when talking

unless you believe the big bad bogy men had amazing voice changing machines

correct, it was 2015. still calling the 3rd week decline as planned/staged to avoid the fans rage (and incidents). the loses were punctually managed and controlled. imho.

Chris Froome (GBr)
Wout Poels (Ned)
Sergio Henao (Col)
Mikel Nieve (Spa)
Michal Kwiatkowski (Pol)
Luke Rowe (GBr)
Ian Stannard (GBr)
Peter Kennaugh (GBr)

So either one of Thomas or Landa loses out. Kiryienka also misses out.

What are you on?

Re: Team Sky Discussion thread

Sky's squad will be stronger than ever.
Here's my guess:
Froome
Thomas
Landa
Poels
Kennaugh
Kwiatkowski
Sergio Henao
Stannard
Kiryienka

Thomas and Kwiat's durability is crucial and means that they don't need to laden their team with flat specialists
(Personally, I would swap Landa with Rowe and send Landa to the Vuelta as a co-leader with Froome)

With Froome, Thomas, Rowe, Kwiat, Nieve and Poels not riding nationals while Landa, Kennaugh and Stannard do, is that a preview of the Tour Team?

Kwiat won his national ITT today , so the answer is no

from Team Sky : Dutch Road Race – Wout Poels, Danny van Poppel

I was talking about the road nationals. I'm pretty sure that initially Poels wasn't listed in that article, because I specifically checked for Poels. Anyway, we'll see.

Ah, ok sorry. But Stannard and Kennaugh have already raced the road nationals and have been on the lineup of the TDF. the nationals are on the Isle of Man, Kennaugh not doing it would look strange. We'll see.

On the Polish news today, they sounded absolutely certain that Mike Flowers will be riding on the 1st of July in his national jersey (there was also an interview with him). To be honest, Flowers being in the tour team this year is a clear no brainer (to those who might not know that phrase - completely obvious).

No doubt for me, Mike Flowers in the TDF. and Team Sky wrote in his report today that the Pole will wear a new
 CASTELLI  skinsuit in all individual time trial events across the next 12 months. His contract must have been renewed.

From CN Article.

Team Sky for the Tour de France:

Chris Froome (Gbr), Geraint Thomas (Gbr), Mikel Landa (Spa), Michal Kwiatkowski (Pol), Christian Knees (Ger), Vasil Kiryienka (Blr), Mikel Nieve (Spa), Sergio Henao (Col), Luke Rowe (Gbr) and Christian Knees (Ger).

Mon the clones...

Interesting to see both Knees and Kiryienka on the roster. Then again, given Knees' performance so far it's a logical choice I guess.

Still a bit surprise by the absence of Wout Poels. He was sent on recon after the Route du Sud, but apparently not good enough yet? No Stannard is not really a surprise to me (unfortunately!). From what I've seen so far this season he seems not as strong as last year.
