The accounts note that Sky's average number of full-time employees in 2016 was 33 (up from 29 in 2015), though it is understood that many of its riders are paid as contractors rather than as full-time employees.

Easier to fire if needs be?

tax reasons

Doesn't it mean they are pretty much self employed?

Yes, fake self-employment is a way to get around tax obligations and a way to avoid having to give employees certain rights. In almost all circumstances it's about employers screwing over their workers, but in the case of a big money sports team and its playing (riding) staff it's likely to be mostly about screwing the state out of tax.

Re: Team Sky Discussion thread

I noticed that Rayanne Bouhanni is still not signed with Cofidis. Perhaps we will hear an announcement of his signing with Cofidis. If that is not in the cards for him, would he be a good addition for Sky? He young rider from France. From what I have been reading on various boards Sir David Brailsford is looking for a good French rider. Would he be a good fit? If anyone is familiar with him what are his strong points as a rider?

The younger brother of Bouhanni? Same ****** attitude, but one third of the talent? Haha right, he's such a good fit for Sky.

I am not very familiar with either of the brothers which is why I was asking. What attitude are you speaking of? Are they head cases and have trouble with taking orders? Do they think themselves bigger than the team?

20th June 2017 Arsenal have hired top Team Sky legal expert Huss Fahmy in a bid to resolve the situation surrounding contract rebels Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The Gunners reportedly turned to Fahmy a week ago in a desperate bid to work on the legal aspects of player deals.

Huss Fahmy will take on a back-office role at Arsenal dealing with player contracts.

Fahmy has been a key part of cycling outfit Team Sky's team since 2010 - after leaving his job at multi-national law firm Herbert Smith.

Sky still have this, Head of Legal and Commercial Affairs - Hussein Fahmy

The man who gave us Team Sky gets £16 million despite a bad year for the company. Good gig! :)

Sky group chief executive Jeremy Darroch was a driving force behind the broadcaster’s investment in cycling.

With Sky being instrumental in the exponential growth in football’s English Premier League, Darroch wanted to dispel a stigma of “Moneybags Sky”.

He saw an opportunity by investing at a grassroots level with British Cycling, while making Sky’s “Believe in Better” motto more tangible to the public through bankrolling a professional cycling outfit.

The Sky chief exec remains on the board of the team, which, unlike most other professional cycling teams, is a subsidiary of the corporate entity.

Millar, the sister of renowned British former pro David Millar, said: “Jeremy had this very clear objective, that was a business-led objective as to why he wanted to get into cycling. Dave had this very clear objective around the Tour de France, and the two things aligned.”

Sky’s chief executive, Jeremy Darroch, was paid more than £16m in the year to the end of June, despite a hefty fall in annual profits at the broadcaster’s UK and Ireland business.

Darroch’s total remuneration almost quadrupled year-on-year, from £4.6m in 2016 to £16.3m last year, thanks to a payout of nearly £12m under Sky’s long-term incentive plan. The scheme, which vests every two years, paid him a more modest £4.7m in 2015.

He also received an almost maximum bonus of £1.9m, 186% of a potential 200% of his £1.04m annual salary.

The payouts came as Sky’s total operating profits fell 6% to £1.47bn for the year. The UK, which accounted for £1.3bn of that, was down 14%.

a lot of websites are doing their updates , once a year, at the end of the year because they need to shut down their sites to do that. if the guy was still their lawyer no need of an update in 2016 in this section, and I would say that he was working for Sky Sport

Update on Luke Rowe.

"It’s been busy and certainly it’s a bit of an adventure. I’ve come a long way already but there’s a long way still to come."

"I haven’t really set myself a date, a target or a race. I just want to get back as soon as I can. Whether that’s Roubaix, whether that’s the Tour, I don’t care. I just want to get back as soon as possible."

“Everyone knows I’ve got a love for the Classics but I know it’s going to be unrealistic to be there. That’s going to be hard because they’re races I love.”

Understatement of the year

He’s dirtier than Cav, Steels and Graeme Brown combined...

(Maybe not Brown as well, but close)

This passage in particular:

Lefevere: "“Het siert hem als toprenner, maar de manier waarop was er ver over. Twee keer kwakte hij Yves Lampaert uit het wiel van Trentin.”

There you go, I just proved Froome is nothing more than a dirty sprinter.

First Sky wins the Tour with a track cyclist and now with a freaking sprinter lol. What's next?

God this is so funny!
Firstly, a 63 Kg guy who has everything to lose if he crashes, pushes(didn't really understand what he exactly did) a 75 Kg Belgian who's job is to lead out a sprint and be a part of the sprint train, yields and then stupidly complains about it. He cries so much that even his manager gets to know about it.
On top of that, the team manager(yes, him   ) has to come on an interview and whine about it. Lol. LMAO.

Secondly, Quick step need to blame somebody for not winning the Green jersey. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Thirdly, when does a team manager start pointing out rival riders? Ridiculous. Okay, if he says Sky tactics weren't right. Or nobody was helping us. But this? Utterly laughable. When that OPQS swerved right and knocked out Froome in 2014 TdF, I dont recall Dave B calling out the said rider in interviews.

Summary: Hilarious!

PS: This is just he said she said. Some video evidence will help. I'm sure you can provide that easily.

So Nibali must be a freaking sprinter too? He was 2nd in the green jersey classification at the start of last stage

“We initially changed to white jerseys for the Tour de France last summer, and it was the feedback from riders and the response from our fans that inspired us to go white for the 2018 season,” Brailsford said.

“Our ambition is for our riders to have the leading performance clothing in the peloton, and we believe that the 2018 kit is our best yet.”
