Team Ineos Discussion thread

It would be nice SKy with less budget.. and maybe some money for another British Pro team, or in any other country.
But it is important for cycling the new team would have less budget. No good Sosa sign, and no good they can even have a washing machine for every rider. (and I am not joking). All those things that aparenthy are not important ut need big money at the end count and can make a difference.

Re: Team Sky Discussion thread

googled
In the framework of the Tour Colombia UCI 2.1, the President of the Republic Iván Duque met with the General Manager of Team Sky, Dave Brailsford and the director of Coldeportes, Ernesto Lucena, to study the proposal to turn the country into a new sponsor of the powerful British squad through the state petroleum company, ECOPETROL.
In that meeting, the Colombian president received the economic proposal from Brailsford, which comprises of; (Figures, times, and types of sponsorship). The current budget with which Team Sky works, amounts to figures close to 40 million euros per season, a figure that far exceeds the investment of the missing Team Colombia that reached just 3,000 million Colombian pesos (approximately 1 million euros ) season.

I thought it was never going to happen with Ecopetrol but maybe with other company. There is only one company who always sponsors cycling since the 80's and is Manzana Postobon (Or just Postobon). And they already have a Continental team. And that's because of the love of Ardila Lulle to cycling. You can find his information below. That would be the most likely scenario if a WT were to happened. But nowadays the costs of keeping a WT team are very high. That was probably why people thought of a powerful company in Colombia like Ecopetrol. But Ecopetrol has had their issues in the past few years.

Let's wait and see, but I think a new sponsor will come up from somewhere else. But it is very hard for a Colombian company at this moment. Government is usually under a lot of pressure to start investing in the cycling business especially when costs are so high.

Manzana is likely happier with the smaller sponsorship money for a continental team than what a WT team would cost.

I still think a sponsorship at a lower level than the current one is possible but a sponsorship at the current level of Sky is very unlikely.

New sponsor could be announced ahead of the Giro. Pinarello & Tag Heuer as the name sponsors with LVMH providing the cash? Italian registered from next year?

Same budget?

that´s just guessing by MatParker
I think they´d need the same budget to go on. but with Comcast prpviding the 70% of the current budget, well, the new sponsor could have an easy fisrt 2 years, then go on full budget
whatever happens, the team goes on, and it´s priceless, after the joy of many who wanted it to fold

It's only 1 year and they are only paying the rider's salaries AND I wouldn't be surprised if there's a stipulation to get them out of that if a new sponsor is found. This is Comcast we're talking about.

Re: Team Sky Discussion thread

It's the Daily Mail. I would probably trust Gazetta more lol! However Sunday Times run the story too last weekend and normally on the money, but could just be this weeks company Brailsford is courting. Ineos seem keen on high level niche sport. £120M they just pumped into Ben Ainslee with Team Ineos UK. The Ineos branding colours means the 2 death stars won't need resprays either!

Re: Team Sky Discussion thread

35th America’s Cup winners, Emirates Team New Zealand, relied on the pedal bike grinders. The use of legs does indeed produce more power for the hydraulic system that powers the wingmast controls and the rake of the daggerboards. And that ample supply allows the team to carry out manoeuvres with more ease at times and go on the attack more easily. So, Team Sky riders to supply that power?

Also maybe an even more evil company than Sky, which is kind of impressive.
Are Sky evil? They're just a TV company. Are you angry that you can't watch Game of Thrones for free?

The likes of the Sun, Fox News etc may have some common shareholders, but they're not Sky.

They have had a few direct and indirect scandals in the UK, and have been repeatedly accused of anti-competitive practices. They also didn't pay any taxes from 1990-1999. Sky was found to have overcharged for its Sky Sports channels, and was ordered in 2010 to reduce its charges for these channels. They are majority owned by Murdoch whose other news outlets hacked phones of innocent people to dig up dirt for their tabloids including the phones of murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler, relatives of deceased British soldiers, and victims of the 7 July 2005 London bombings.

They didn't pay taxes in the 90s because they were running at pretty big losses year on year.
The Murdoch's owned 16%. If they had majority owned it they would have sold the rest to themselves.
Phone hacking wasn't at Sky - blaming Sky for that is like blaming The Simpsons for Fox News. One of the biggest campaigners against it was Steve Coogan who has since made several shows for Sky.

So they're 'evil' because they overcharged for football.
