I think Vauqelin would have finished within 10-20 seconds of Vingegaard if in the same group at the bottom of the climb. With this weather, who knows the natural difference in level (Vingegaard always the better rider) would have been neutralised / reversed...They had a chance of beating Vingegaard?
And even had they pivoted to Vauquelin earlier, they were never bringing his group back.
