Thanks Mark L, very nice.

Call me a nazi for correctly pointing out that this guy is an obvious troll that has been banned many times before.

You think everybody who disagrees with you is a previously banned troll.....you have self-appointed 'sceptic' as the witch finder general....the stasi....the KGB....you name it.......when all you do is sour the forum with your endless snarks

Funny thing is....,this guy actually agrees with your main view....but you are too demented to see it.......why do you post here?........what is your point?

Marginal gain, having several primary buses.

Or something like that.

Had forgotten Sky even contended in the Giro.

Sky didn't contend any GT's this year(or any of the spring monuments...again).

Except the Vuelta I suppose where their guy came second. And Paris Roubaix where they had two in the top ten. And Milan San Remo which they podiumed.

But apart from that, you make a good point!

Yeah because Froome was contending the win at the Vuelta, he didn't stand a chance against Contador. Tell me in M-SR, RVV or P-R did it look at any point when it mattered they were contending for victory?

Please. Can we not devolve into some argument about whether a professional cyclist on a professional team racing a professional race (or races) wanted to win?

Of course they wanted to win.

It's _________ to think otherwise, where _________ is some insulting term indicating a negative mental attribute.

They were doing great in the spring monuments.

Wiggo finishing, top-10 at Paris-Roubaix, did very well at the Ronde.
Gerraint Thomas had a great spring and just got 4th at the WC TT.
Ian stannard won Het Niewsblad.

I'd argue this was their best Spring ever.

Their grand tour program has been an unexplainable mess all year until Froomie's second place at the Vuelta.

Where did I say that a rider didn't want to win?

Not Paris roubaix. Hanging onto top 10 while never remotely in contention with the favourites =/ top 10. And I know you'll come back with - different interpretations of the word to contend. Fair enough. For me and many though contending is actually fighting for the win.

Was he not riding IN the top 10 and finished in the group WITH all the favourites?

Last 10k

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOXGU-kyj-I&feature=player_detailpage#t=2318

The only riding Wiggins did in the last 10k was 400 meters from 8.8k to 8.4k after that he was at the back of the group and no higher than 7th in line. Not what I would call contending more "happy to be there". Thomas was 'tail-end Charlie' from 10k to 5.3k when he left the back and went to the front(DeBacker and him were at the front) and when he did the gap to Terpstra increased from 8 seconds to 20 seconds.

Why would Wiggins put in more effort then he needs to if he has Thomas in there? You could say that Terpstra was not a contender in that race. Until he was.

If Fignon was a Sky rider you would claim he was never in contention for the 89 Tour. Comical.

So when someone finishes a race top 10 in your view they're in contention for the win? So in 2003 was Rolf Aldag a contender?

Yes Fignon was in contention in the 1989 Tour(I'd say that even if he was a Sky rider), Wiggins was not in contention in Paris-Roubaix, Thomas did more work in the last 10k and finished ahead of Wiggins.

Were the rest of the riders in that group 'in contention'?

Seems a moot question because even if you finish 3rd in a sprint (i.e. Swift in MSR) you can't be in contention according to you.

Some might argue that Thomas is a better sprinter than Wiggins. And why concentrate on Wiggins when you were talking about Sky as a whole?

Yes, all but the evil Sky riders were "in contention". :D

Look Wiggins finished 9th in that race and not once whilst it was on did I think "oh Wiggins is 'in contention' to win"(I'm guessing there are others who share this view too).

So (using that same logic) during the Tour or the Vuelta, at any point, did you never think Froome was in contention to win?
