So - if Nico is such a good climber how come we dont see him in this form in any other mountain stages in other races ? If I recall I posted last Vuelta when Roche was suddenly a mountain goat - and yes in the Vuelta again - so how come he only chooses to climb this well in the Vuelta ? I watch almost every cycling race on tv and Roche is never up there with the climbers in the last kms.....and now he is.

**** the hypocrisy ‏@Digger_forum 14h

And just because I am Irish, I am naïve regarding Roche...no way do I believe he's clean.

**** the hypocrisy ‏@Digger_forum 14h

He's a sprinter who is now climbing, for the most part, with climbers who have doped.

Least i,m in good company - Digger agrees

Roche is a decent enough climber who has his moments. He's by no means good enough to be a top contender for the podium in the Giro or Tour, but with the right competition and when in form he can climb well. The Vuelta has been the GT he's done the best in. Maybe it's the type of climbs in the race, maybe he's just better suited for late season peaks, maybe it's because other riders are starting to feel tired from their individual seasons.

Whatever it is, it's not too odd or suspicious to see him riding well here.

In the Chris Froome thread in the Pro Racing subforum, I saw a picture of Froome preparing for Rio 2016 in a "Peak Performance Chamber" by GlaxoSmithKline. In this chamber oxygen levels, humidity and temperature can be regulated. I also remember reading Team Sky's super performance on stage 10 of the TDF was explained away with the story that they had trained in a special chamber in which they mirrored the predicted conditions for that stage; this might have been the same chamber/machine. This made me think at the time and now that I see it again, I started wondering, do other teams have access to similar chambers? I remember reading a reply on the theguardian.com website, stating that Tinkoff-Saxo had tried to get their hands on the ketone drinks but you have to be besties with Oxford University to get them. I searched the comment section for that reply a while later but it appears it has been deleted just like all other replies questioning Team sky  anyway my question: does anyone know if other teams have access to such chambers? And if they don't surely we have to wonder if this is what we want: multi-million dollar teams owned by huge companies with massive influence and many connections in their country of origin, leading to a massive technological and scientific advantage for these teams? It's not even just a matter of larger budgets: I understand a team with a bigger budget will have an advantage. But if one team can use methods other teams can't, no matter how much money those other teams are willing to spend.....?

According to Vaughters, the genes male offspring inherit are from their Mother's hence Dan Martin with 2 monuments and Roche Jnr with none.....................according to JV.

I doubt Roche is a panyagua rider.

There is something to JVs comments in that Mitochondria come from the mother.

Yes, Mitochondrial Efficiency (or rather, the potential for it) is inherited largely from the mother. There's been a few studies showing this.

Agreed, but there's still pedigree there. Not quite on Taylor Phinney's level, but it's there.

In any case, it's genetic doping.

Re: Sky

Little Pete Kennaugh getting a 20" time penalty yesterday the the TOB for taking a feed in the last 15km. A rule he says he didnt know about.

Sky once again leaving no stone unturned..........apart from the important rules. Marginal gains when it suits them eh?

Brian Cookson was in the commaisers car so no doubt they thought they were safe.

Kennaugh is as 'thick as mince' and probably can't count down from 15 anyway.

theory may be valid, but is fundamentally flawed.

these athletes that represent at the Olympics, they are sooooooo far off the bell curve, you could start a Nazi Joy Division Eugenics Ubermensch punk rock society with all the Olympic female runners from Ethiopia, and it is still like winning the bloody lottery.

yes, you may inherit higher VO2. But a higher V02 aint getting you to the damn Rio Olympics innit. You still need to win your own native genetic lottery. Does not matter if Connie Carpenter is your mom.

Mitochondrial efficiency is independent of VO2, however like VO2 it is just one piece of the larger puzzle. Also, just because you aren't an athlete doesn't mean you can't have it.

If you stop and think about it, statistically, the person with the most athletic potential in the world is most likely an unknown factory worker or labourer in China or India who's never played sport in their life

Asians have lower testosterone, so I'm going to ask you head to the POC population to choose your best athletic potential ;)

this.

it is a barrier to entry, and minor catchment for Rio. If you want to win a medal, p'raps the best to train for is equistrian and come from an emirati where you have a billionaire as your patron/father or you are the billionaire, and buy the best horse, then you go and buy the other top50 horses in the world, and create a dog food company, with especially expensive raw ingredients.
