Outstanding victory for Dan Martin in Catalunya good for the sport. Watching him climb and suffer is reassuring. Same with Chris Froome."
And...go....

Ah, remember the good old days when Bernie Kohl was championed as a sign of cycling cleaning up because he suffered so much in the mountains of the Tour? Dutch cycling commentators were ecstatic, this was clear proof that cycling was turning a new leaf.

I appreciate what Walsh has done with Armstrong, but he should be really, really carefull in proclaiming to know who is clean. Many a hand has been burned that way in the past.

Whether they look like they're suffering is surely is the most accurate indicator of whether they're clean! Why do officials even bother with tests?

Looking forward to mastersracer telling us how Froome dawg doing 6.0w/kg is completely normal and a sign that the sport is cleaning up.

It's not just Froome and Wiggo, it's f*ck*ng everyone in the team, in every single race !!!

Watching today's races on TV made me really sad.

Professional cycling is dead.

Froome and Wiggins just lost T-A and Catalunya, btw, and their Classics team are hardly making a ripple.

I tend to agree. But it does work both ways. Some proclaim to see dopers just by looking at them ride (looks like a duck, quacks like a duck etc...). One has to be careful as yes as you mention Kohl was thought to be clean due to his suffering. So to see a performance and say it is definitely dope fuelled is as much a stab in the dark as proclaiming a clean performance (unfortunately). In my opinion it is yet to be determined if Walsh is barking up the wrong tree on this one.

My family used to take the cows up to l'ospedale once a year(seriously) and they looked more gracious and "clean" than froome on a bike today at l'ospedale.

Youre pretty dense arent you? or did you start watch cycling in july 2012? For the last 20 years, when a team or a rider is destroying the competition it is always doping. But of course this time its just a stab in the dark to even suggest they might be doping

Froome new Armstrong? You are joking surely? Different race style, ~Different tactics, Different attitude, Different ethic, Everything so very different, including the use of banned substances and disregard for fellow cyclists.

Ah the self-assuredness.... I don't mind people thinking sky is clean, but insulting people who talk about armstrong like they're all idiots and that sky is amazing and clean isreally being ignorant. Took 14 years for most people to finally accept the truth about lance... but after one season froome is now the christ?

Porte now seems to be combining the climbing abilities of Froome with the TT abilities of Wiggins...I'd say he's more suspect than either of them...

I couldn't watch the races or read the forum today. I just saw the results and I imagined this thread would be on fire. I wasn't wrong. You guys made my day. Plenty of gold posts here. :D

Sky are ridiculous, and Walsh is now officially either a sellout, or blind.

Ah bless compliments to start your post. Started watching Cycling circa 1987, Stephen Roche. Is that long enough to join your club? (or I presume no dense people allowed-definitely not if they ride a mountain bike too!)

So why do we have doping controls? We can just look at them and we know they're doping anyway so just ban them if the 'look' too good? I was suggesting that Walsh is seeing clean riding and a fellow poster (who may or may not be dense, you decide) suggested that quite rightly a knackered khol looked umm 'knackered' at end of races and hence 'looked' clean (as even Kimmage thought iirc) but this proved to be incorrect. So to determine doping or clean riding one can't rely on ones eyes all the time. But as you say as soon as there is a dominant performance that always, always, always equals doping. So forever thereon will always also signify doping I presume. yours sincerely Sir Densey Dense of Denseshire (near Thickwood of Thickety Thick street...is that childish enough for you? Has a hint of Blackadder too..quite proud of that...Bob..who was actually a girl...)

Maybe Sky can sign Damiano Cunego and make him win GT's again.

Wasn't there talk a couple of season ago of him signing for them?

Maybe they told him what was expected of their GC guys and he said "No thanks!"

He's been pretty outspoken on his antidoping stance. And why shouldn't he be. After all, this is a guy who showed early promise but saw himself tumble down the GC ladder when guys like Di Luca got on the old airplane fuel.

Also a guy who's been about as open as he can be about his past without explicitly volunteering for a ban.

Just watching the Crit Int highlights and when Tschopp attacks, Boardman says this;

'Sky are doing what they've been doing all season riding their own race, they're going to let him go, they know it's costly to get a gap like this and he'll have to pay a price in a few minutes time. Their strategy is to wait and reel him back in'.

So non-Sky riders have to pay a price whilst attacking, but Sky riders don't.

lol great point.

THe other guy also said

"thats yet another part of the process to the Tour de France completed".

I think he meant "procession",

Meanwhile on Eurosport
" the man who will take the Tour de France title off Bradley Wiggins in July"

Seems like the commentators got the memo who wins the Tour this year. Did the memo come from Mcquaid?
