Lance and Wiggins

Now where have we heard this before ?????? Mr Brailsford anywhere ?? and where is that Bradley Wiggins ??

“As early as 1995, defendant Weisel and former cyclist Mark Gorski formed a plan to develop a U.S. cycling team that could win the Tour de France,” the suit says. In May 1995, Weisel hired Gorski to work at Montgomery Sports. In 1996, the team secured the USPS sponsorship.

Says the suit: According to his book, “defendant Weisel and Mr. Gorski built the team specifically for the [Tour de France]. . . . Weisel sought out and hired riders with all the different skills necessary to support Armstrong and help him win the Tour.”

Outside the traditional cycling nations, what other purpose could there be for a newly formed team? To attract funding you'd need to aim to win medals in the OGs or do well in the Tour, as these are the only cycling events that the masses in non-traditional nations have heard of. (One could add Giro and Vuelta for the less geographically challenged non-traditional cycling nations.)

It wouldn't be a very good marketing strategy in the US to say the objective is to win the Spring Classics or to say the objective is to do moderately well in the Tour, would it?

As to building a team round a specific rider to win the Tour, the traditional cycling nations can't really do this, as there is an expectation that they will race a full programme and/or ride races that are useful to their sponsors, who tend to be relatively small scale, regional operators. I'm sure a lot more teams would be competitive in the Tour if they didn't send a lot of their good riders to wear themselves out in the Giro, but that's another issue.

"Person starts sports team, wants to win competition, recruits sportsmen to help achieve aim"

Where have you heard that before? Every sports team ever, that's where.

BMC was started with the aim of winning races. They recruited the best riders they could to help win races.

Exactly the same.

Or did Evans win the Tour by accident?

I would think that Och's comments fall into the "Get your excuses in early" category, to try and convince his sponsors etc. that he'd sooner lose in style - perhaps with a lot of panache and elan - than win in a boring and efficient style. Thus, when BMC have a bad season, expectations have already been set.

Of course, if BMC have a good season, then he'll be hailed as a visionary genius. Or a doping mastermind.

Not sure if Ritchie was riding for someone, but he was 34th this year vs 4th last year in National road champs.

But similar placing in the TT - 4th this year and 5th last year.

Will be interesting to see if the Sky domestiques are as dominating in 2013 as they were in 2012.

You can't draw much from the first stat given how unpredictable a bunch race is. The TT is more telling, the race of truth.

He actually cut his gap to Durbridge from last year and I'd say that's off-form given how average he was in the RR. Later peak, will be causing a lot of pain March-May.

I saw the TT gap was halved, but the course was different too, without that stupid hill, from memory?

I was also thinking his build up will be different with the Giro / Tour double planned, and the new Movistar riders may be champing at the bit for a crack at the Vuelta?

I bet Sky is annoyed at Kimmage. If it wasn't for him banging that potential doper drum, the Lance BS would have drowned Leinders et al in a sea of doping confession noise.

I'm looking forward to a cracker of a year.

I don't suspect that's a new state of affairs to be honest, do you Wiggo?

Cav had one season at Sky....maybe if he'd stayed longer he could have developed the sensitive media handling skills of Wiggins:rolleyes:

Or is it just convenient to use the Sky thread for any anti-british comments?

Looking at the clip shown on.oprah from 2005 where lance says that ferrari through nutrition and sports science helped a lot of.people.win clean, in.what ways does that differ.from what bailsford says about.kerrison?

Ok so kerrison is not a doctor. He's not tainted. im not saying its anywhere near as bad but i think.there are some.clear.similarities.

And more.importantly bailsford says kerrison works.because these non.doping tricks.never existed before.so sky.got the only advantage
but wait. 7 years ago lance was already talking about using these non.doping advantages, are we really to believe no.one did it for another 7 years until.kerrison came along?
