Is David Walsh nowadays just a big fat SKY joke?

He's whatever you need him to be.

Some people don't want truth, they simply want someone to agree with their agenda.
If Walsh won't do it, he's of no use, accurate reporting or not....

Just because he's running Sky PR on their racing doesn't mean he's going to actively lie or misreport things in other areas.

Just read the past few pages and laughed.

I've been out on the bike this morning, watching the Giro this afternoon. Why don't some of you guys find another to sport to follow if this one is so rotten to the core??

This is a bizarre statement.
I too was out for a ride and just watched the Giro, why should I need to find another sport when this one is excellent?

I wouldn't say the sport is rotten to its core - but I welcome that the rotten element get exposed.

Glad you find the doping funny. It might explain why you come in here.

If you dont think it is rotten to the core, then surely the clinic is of no importance to you.

No, he is just a journalist.

The highlighted is an odd statement coming from you - I have no doubt DW is accurately reporting what he see's and putting forth good questions, but the 'truth' is if Sky are doping they will not do so in front of him.

But as DW has not said anything too negative on Sky you are more than happy to suggest it is the 'truth'.

I don't mind criticism, never have, but those who express it uncouthly will be blocked. In fact, blocking them will help make my day!

Tough day. Accuse me of bias if you wish but gutsy performance by Wiggins to hang in as he did. Rain, which he didn't want, bucketed down.

I would prefer if he stopped acting like the official Sky PR twitter.

No one can take him seriously when he tweets 100 times a day about how great sky and Wiggo are

It would be very sad if David Walsh was 'in the know' but pretended that all was well (akin to Liggett during Lance-apalooza). However unlikely, but IF David accidently found a syringe or bottle in the trash (as journos did in the mid 90s after visiting team hotel rooms) don't you think he would report it?

He may enjoy the company following Sky around, getting access and all that, but if he had something other than mere suspicions, surely he wouldn't close his eyes. That would be plain evil and I do still believe David cares about the sport of cycling.

Is he a man of integrity or am I stuck in Santa Claus territory?

Walsh is with team Sky at the Giro - so of course he is going to discuss Team Sky at the Giro. There was a reason I did not read his comments at the golf in Augusta - because he was discussing golf in Augusta.

He was over in Tenerife and is now with them in the Giro and has been reporting and tweeting mainly on his experiences from that. Remember that most of his followers are probably from the UK anyway and it's more in conversation with them.

Fair point.

But the criticism of Walsh is now going over the top as well. All his comments today were said in a racing sense and it seems that when it's not doping related, it's to be immediately taking issue with. I have no doubt if Walsh heard something untoward was going on, he would jump on it and investigate it further and report accordingly. He wrote articles on Roche and publicly questioned Michelle Smith even though he knew it opened him up to be vilified by the general public at the time. All that never stopped him in the past and I have no reason now either for me to say he has stopped here as well. I heard recently in the Whistleblowers event he said he asked Julich about the environment at Sky and got told it was cleanest team he was in. I'm sure Walsh has done various enquires along those lines with other people where there is nothing further of note coming out which would put further suspicion on them. He can't be blamed for asking the right questions and coming up emptied handed at the same time.

I have said previously in another thread I'm not a fan of this so called "embedding in" stuff as it can be just spun by the team in a PR positive. Maybe it's coming across Walsh is getting too close but you can't criticise Sky for not allowing Kimmage to follow them for the entire Tour and then take issue when another respected journalist is around now.

Following on from this, what can Walsh report on which would satisfy everyone. He has already said the Leinders episode was a disaster and they have removed anyone who previously doped during their careers. There is just nothing new since which has prompted futher suspicion and reporting on with regards to this.

He's no different that Paul Sherwin going on about USPS and Lance. Its ok if you don't want to see it but its right there in your face.

Jullich's quote

"...it was cleanest team he was in...."

That does not say they were not doping, just that they were not doping as much a teams Jullich was in.

Kind of goes along with the sport being cleanER but not clean. Hurrah!

What I said was that he is acting like their biggest fan. which he is.

Cool, since its "right there" it should be easy for you to point it out then.
Because Sherwen used to trot out all the Lance myths. Very different to giving opinions on twitter as a race unfolds.

Since Mr Walsh is being discussed here he seems to have upset Dowsett

Millarmind

Congratulated 24yr old @alexdowsett this morning, was sad to see how disappointed he was about what @DavidWalshST had written about him.

I think it was about his comments (Dowsetts) about Lance

I predict Wiggins and Sky will destroy everyone in the coming weeks. I also predict that this may not happen.
Whichever turns out to be true, it will be proof of doping, or not doping, or proof of doping in the past but not so much now, or proof of doping just as much now but not as much as the others, or something like that.

I will be back in a few weeks, to point out how accurate my prediction was.
Probably on a Tuesday.
