Today I saw a spectator spit on @richie_porte very disrespectful those guys don't deserve this at all! Please stop, or stay at home

"There was a sour note on the stage though as race leader Chris Froome (Team Sky) had urine thrown at him by a spectator in the early part of the day, his teammate Luke Rowe was spat at, and BMC's Rohan Dennis complained of being punched by a spectator. "

Seems to be getting really out of hand.

Reminds me of an infamous interview conducted years ago with a wrestler who put the beat down on a reporter who had the audacity to question the legitimacy of the "sport."
Ease up, everyone. That includes spectators who apparently threw a cup of pee at the VRoomster today.

You mean this one, Dave Schultz?

That snarky *** got what was coming to him IMO, pre-determined or not, 'fake' wrestling puts the body under extreme stress daily, causing permanent and sometimes fatal damage.

Kennaugh just comes across as a complete dumbass, under pressure or not, to be fair to Froome most people would flip a lid if that happened to them, his reaction was very measured, some might say cold.

Definitely.

We'll see what happens from this in the medium-term, hopefully nobody gets seriously hurt as a consequence.

However, we've been saying for some time that the sport needed something to kick-start a proper cleaning up process. We've seen a number of false dawns. The 2007-8 period of high profile riders being kicked out or down a level, the Reasoned Decision, CIRC, MPCC and a change in the UCI leadership. Threatened breakaway leagues. None of it's had any impact, and after a brief period of hope, the paces are increasing back to the EPO era's speed, the head of the UCI has his fingers in teams' and races' pies, fans are being treated even more like idiots than they were 20 years ago when it was far easier to silence them and keep them in ignorance.

None of this excuses some of the behaviour we've started seeing on the roads in the last few days and don't read me saying the above as an excuse for this behaviour. But if we're lucky, some good can come out of the chaos if Reverend Jim Cookson seeing the fans cranking up some vintage Who and turning completely on the spectacle (to the unacceptable point of violence) will send a bigger message that they need to do something to sort this out than they had previously thought.

I just want to hope some good can come out of this, because right now nobody's looking good out of this.

whatever. when I come across frauds and blowhards in my own life, I give them no respect whatsoever. If they aggressively lord their "success" in my face, even less so. The same dynamic in cities, bars, workplaces and regular lives the world over has led to many deserved punches, brawls, ass-kickings & hospitalisations, with no sympathy for the lying scum when they are on the receiving end.

Sky chooses to do the same thing in front of millions, playing millions for fools, and act surprised?

i am jeremy benthem's panopticon. who the f r u?

No one of any consequence just like you.

He's just someone who seems to have a massive chip on his shoulder about Brits (hence the continued "Empire Crew" comments and strange references to Gordonstoun School ...). I'd guess he's an Aussie or a Kiwi who cant quite reconcile his past / heritage ...

Eh, that's a bit personal and insulting. Blackcat posts a lot of weird things about sky and not about sky. Behind that there is usually substance.

He does indeed post a lot of things of substance, but he also posts a lot about 'Empire Crew', Gordonstoun, Muscular Christianity, and previously trying to tar us (ie Brits) with the Jimmy Saville brush. None of which adds to the argument and is as much, if not more, personal and insulting than the comment I made.

Wow. I'm going to go ahead and disagree that hitting someone is ever justified when confronted with snark.

This is what the sport needs. An alternative view stream where instead of watching the race coverage you can just watch Le Blaireau punching out obnoxious fans for two hours.

I would watch that over the race, definitely.

It would be worth compiling a highlights reel of just the vistas from the Tour. Castles, villas, valleys, waterfalls, mountains, the various roadside displays.

I'd watch that for an hour no worries.

Re: Sky

Since the '98 Festina Affair has there ever been so much doping accusation about a rider or team than did not eventually play out to be true? I can't think of any but could be wrong. The urine toss episode has aroused the attention of the casual fans.

In France, commentators went 'full ***' on two occasions : Aubisque 2007 (no excitement at all) and Ventoux 2013 ("Cancellara-style attack on the Ventoux", said Vasseur)

Spud, I am not tarring you Spud qua Spud.

I am not tying Brits to Saville.

I am just taking the p!$$. The nation of Stephen Fry and Monty Python RichardE Grant, Hume Locke Russell and Scottish Enlightenment. I know what the world owes the Brits.

But I can take the P!$$ surely!

What Sky ought to do, moreover, what Froome needs to do, is to allow for tests to take place when the WADA people show up.

Letting someone test your blood/urine when you're not glowing doesn't exactly scream impartiality in my book.
Sky/Froome totally disingenuous with this test nonsense. But their target audience, who may aswell read the Beano, wont realise it.

Silvio Martenelli of the RAI
was sympathising with Froome the great champion
under all these accusations.
yuk
I had to switch to Kirby & Sean for half an hour -

Good luck with that. They both know which side the bread is buttered, Kirby especially. Kelly must know its total sh*te, but ES rocking the Sky boat? no way.

Re: Sky

Is the end on the horizon for the Dawg and his cronies? I dont know, however there seems to be an intensity online about this Tour this year. Is it because of just the Dawg going full *** or is it a combination of the Dawg, LRP and Thomas all being up there?

Is the down fall in sight?

Its hard to say as there are a hell of a lot of people who believe they are clean. Mostly people who havent put up with the bull of USPS and the other dark era's. I see so many of these people lapping up Saint Millar and his holyness of being clean after doping. The 'They have too much to loose' BS of why Sky would dope.

I think there is a degree of hysteria being whipped up against Sky that was notably absent from Nibali's win last year, despite Astana openly stinking to high heaven.

I think there are all sorts of factors at play here, some fair, some not, but undoubtedly Sky have opened themselves up for it by the uncomfortable juxtaposition of their pronouncements on ZTP and the unusual trajectory of their riders.

That will be the Walsh factor. No one doubted Astana were old school, but there were not many calling them clean.

Where was Walsh's outrage at Il Giro when Astana dominated. He said little for fear of being called on it now as Sky dominate the TdF.

Walsh's story of USPS and Sky are poles apart. The stratospheric flip is as big as Froome's rise from hanging onto motorbikes to GT winner.

Add to that the bullying in the hotel parkings with their motorhomes
