That article just says that the remaining three riders will be chosen out of Costa (...)

A neo-pro who the team were adamant wouldn't be riding any GTs back in January.

He's had a non-stop season since the Tirreno (where he crashed and lost consciousness for minutes, then remounted and finished the remaining 6 stages), and rode every single major classic. When's the last time a neo-pro did that?

Heck, he's anything but a powerful rider and he'd never ridden cobbles before yet he was 58th in Roubaix. Then was seen pulling at the front of the pack when it was down to only 30 riders in Liége...

Winner of an Hors Category race...then 13th in the Tour de Suisse.

His season's been far too long. He should be rested, otherwise they risk screwing up his development.

Vuelta ambitions, perhaps?

Yes, the plan all along has been for Rodríguez to be GC leader at the Vuelta. That's likely to change, of course, with the Valverde situation.

no Joaquin Rodriguez for Caisse d'Epargne any reason he has been left out or can we add him to our mystery 50. ;)

looks like the doctors recommended him not to return to competition so soon after the injury that forced him to abandon the giro, because he could jeopardise his recovery;)

Didn't Joaquin Rodriguez sit out last year's Tour as well?

Anyway Katusha's line-up:

Filippo Pozzato
Vladimir Karpets
Danilo Napolitano
Alexandre Botcharov
Serguei Ivanov
Mikhail Ignatiev
Nikolai Trusov
Joan Horrach
Stijn Vandenbergh

Correct. The point was that Uran is Colombian and He is not going to any National championship. So that means that they already know whether he is in or out. So I was just wondering which one it was.

No, they are saying that if the others ALL do well, Uran is out. If one of them f's up, Uran is in.

Muravyev is the token Kazakh (would of picked Iglinksy instead), Paulinho is the mate of Contador, and Rast was a left field selection.

Why were Horner and Brajkovic left out? At least CH was an excellent domestique in the mountains.
Now...AC is with Kloden,Zubeldia and Paulinho, while LA has Levi and Popovych.
3-2 for Contador?
I suppose Rast and Muravyev are there for the flat stages.

I figure if you need someone else in the mountains after LA, AC, LL, Kloeden, popovych (though last year?) and zubeldia something has gone horribly wrong, Rast is there to help that TTT along.

I'm taking a punt here and would suggest Horner is not quite ready after his crash in the Giro.

I read some of his statements and he seemed quite ready to me for the Tour.
He's trained all this time with Lance and Levi in Aspen.
But after all,it's the kazakhs' right to ask JB select one of their men for the TDF.
As somebody else said,Iglinskiy would have been better than Muravyev.

Not a time triallist at all. Other than Noval, everyone else on the pre-selected list is miles better than him in this respect.

Rast is the suprising one to me. I know that Contador wanted both Noval and Paulinho. Astana had to take at least one of them or Contador would have flipped out. I like Noval, but hes not quite the rider he used to be.

You know there would be a token Kaz on the team. So that really only left one spot. I find it interesting they didn't bring JBjr or Horner. I guess JBjr is regulated to the Vuelta yet again. Hopefully Horner will not loose motivation he had this spring. If he shows at the Vuelta with good form he has a chance to do some good there.

I think we are almost there now! QST one of the last, but sinc ethe Boonen issue is still pending...

hmm no szmyd huh... Too worn out after the Giro? I expected him to be a safe bet to set the pace in the mountains. Perhaps he is Basso's mountain buddy.

Yeah,that's what Liquigas' manager said.
Since Szmyd did the Giro and also the Dauphine, now it's time for a break and after that, his mission will be to back Basso in the Vuelta.;)

That's what was being said/rumoured. Lovkvist would not be on the list. Good for Maxime though!

Monfort made the cut, I'm glad. :) I think he'll do better than most people expect him to. But who's the main man in this squad? Rogers? Kirchen? But what with Martin's ambitions, and Monfort surely will aim at least a bit for personal succes? Will they just go ahead and sees who gets the furthest in the mountains?
