Agreed, it's an awful line up for this course. Presumably Valverde (if he decides to ride) will be the leader trying to snatch something if the race breaks up before the finish. With Lobato the backup option for a sprint.

One thing in Spain's favour at least is that a lot of the riders go well in the heat.

When Jorge Arcas and David de la Cruz are in the pre selections for a completely flat WC-course, you don't have much to offer. :D

Does anyone know the Italian team? Or even the longlist?

Cheers.
As far as I can remember Nizzolo, Viviani, Bennati, Quinziato, Oss, Trentin, Sabatini and Guarnieri are pretty much sure, a few guys still have a shot at getting the 9th spot, I'm pretty sure that Cassani mentioned Puccio, Coledan and Moscon, but I can remember the other names. They didn't mention Ferrari (really underrated as a leadout man) and right now Colbrelli isn't even on the shortlist.

Maybe it is better to speak about the French teams. It is a real pity Team Gadret is not longer involved in road races.

Their best chance would be Coquard after the FDJ and Cofidis' take each other out with reckless trains for their respective trade team leaders.

You may be right, but the situation is different since France has 9 riders while Germany has 6.

Sorry if I am being dumb, but what is the German book - chosing one sprinter and go with him?

Either Greipel or Kittel will be left home. Degenkolb is another sprinter though.

Choosing a strong field sprinter, a leadout/smaller group sprinter and some rouleurs. Meanwhile, the French have chosen two field sprinters that hate each other, and some pack fill.

They could have at least chosen riders like Chavanel, Roy, Turgot and Gallopin, with Coquard instead of either Bouhanni or Demare as a leadout/reserve sprinter. France might have a cohesive team then, but with the team listed, chances are Demare will have the FDJ guys leading him out on one side and Bouhanni will have the Cofidis guys leading him out on the other. If these two cause a crash sprinting against each other (which they will almost certainly do) the French selectors only have themselves to blame.
