UCI on the attack with another banger press release.

I said this whole thing had LRP camper van vibes but I didn't think they'd try and clampdown this quickly.
You can not make this stuff up! :D
https://velo.outsideonline.com/road...ur-de-france-data-vehicle-at-threat-from-uci/
It will be hoping the UCI doesn’t hit “reset” on that idea.
So what will the A-team in the van be doing instead? Sitting in the team bus instead with their laptops?

So we already have the 2024 equivalent of last year's Plugge versus Madiot Beergate.

This year, it's "Controlgate".

There's always something with this team. Personally speaking I was more concerned about the lack of visible WC facilities onboard like a camper has (or the team busses have).

For the sake of the sweaty guys 'working' at their monitors whilst listening into their rival's radio conversations, I hope they park somewhere private. When you gotta go, you gotta go.

How about the possibility of monitoring pulse/wattage of other teams' riders? That should be banned if not already?

We're in the NSA/GCHQ intercepting of radio transmissions here, I think. If Visma try it, then someone will be going to jail. That is of course if they get caught.
Because of the limited range of broadcast from the competitor's Garmin/whatever to a rider-carried scanning receiver; wouldn't that be beyond the reach of the law? That's kind of free broadcast stuff and not secured?

The rider in proximity "might" know who owns the broadcast unit but could certainly relay who they were around. Plausible deniability all around. Embedded file retrieval might cross the line but would be worthwhile to have a week's information from a rival.
Seems like something that should be in the UCI rules if nothing else. Like a full team suspension for doing something like that.

We did have the 2015 hack of Froome's data - and subsequent YouTube video ...
https://www.bicycling.com/racing/a20027055/chris-froome-s-crazy-data-hack-scandal/
The hack Brailsford claimed occurred wasn’t a rival team trying to crack Sky’s competitive code or just learn some intel, a la the Saint Louis Cardinals’ alleged hacking of the Houston Astros. Instead, it was about doping. “Chris Froome’s ride for glory under threat in data spying storm,” read another headline, this time in the UK’s Telegraph newspaper.
Now, would n't it be amusing if the UCI anti-doping people were behind the hack? :D

Bruyneel has referenced this frequently and I think channels were easily listenable. He said they listened in a lot and also put a lot of bad info out there for others doing the same.

Sorry if I misread the string conversation and playing captain obvious
Radio is one thing, but nowadays riders data is the prime object for other teams. An old article from 2015 gives a good explaination - https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2015/07/power-meters-pro-cycling.html

Thanks for that. Granted this is an analysis from 2015 and some improvements could be made:

"Now with that noted, how is the data transmitted? Is it open and easily readable? Well, in a nutshell – yes. But, it depends a little bit on how it’s broadcast. Today, both ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart as used in power meters on the market today are not encrypting data. That means that one could snoop and listen to data broadcast from any rider passing by."

Not that JV is actively doing anything but ASO should have a race policy if the UCI doesn't. Get caught stealing data and your team is banned from our events for....whatever duration.

So Jorgenson pulled hard and Wout sprinted so Pog shouldn't get 4 sec. They could've done it without Jorgenson pulling
Jorgenson was working for Van aert to win the stage in the end.

I was joking about the 4 s, Van aert certainly didn't thought about that at the moment, he wanted to win the stage.

Now, obviously Vingegaard can't work for Van aert, it doesn't make sense.
