And Visma shouldn't stop at Rabobank. They need to go back to promoting WordPerfect as well.

The guy who broke the news (Raymond Kerckhoffs from Wielerflits) seems to expect they'll be gradually growing their commitment. Now I don't know how objective he is, somehow he thinks this news is just about the best thing to happen to cycling since the invention of the wheel, but apparently this is just the start.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the OneCycling project.

We had Crest( toothpaste) Coors Light, 7-11, 7-Up, Lowenbrau, LA Sheriffs, Snapple, WD40, Simple Green, Wheaties( breakfast cereal) wouldn't mind seeing some old names rejoin the sponsorship game!! Sleepy Time, Celestial Seasoning,
I always thought that some car companies would get involved but that's faded out!!Ford, Chevrolet, Subaru, Alpha Romeo, Saturn, Toyota, Nissan but all just disappeared from bike racing..

Visma-LAB look really terrible to start the year. Form is average to bad and their tactics are all over the place. I know they often start quite slow but by Omloop they’re usually flying.

Maybe they’re taking a different approach to the season? Seems weird when they were so dominant 2 years ago and mostly just got incredibly unlucky last year.

They wanted a complete approach this season, even created something they call the white jersey group. Their main focus is, as per usual, to score in the biggest races (classics / grand tours). However, unlike previous years, they plan on doing more racing, less training.

Now, as to what the reasoning is behind their downfall, I do not know, but what I do know is that, apart from Zeeman, several high end employees and nutritionists left for greener pastures. One went to RedBull, the other to Ajax. Several positions they have failed to (adequately) fill.

It's painful in just about every area currently. Literally every rider looks subpar thus far. If they even race that is, as just about everyone seems rather prone to illnesses currently. Not just their Omloop team was miserable sans Jorgenson, they did even worse in Ardeche this afternoon.

We'll see Kooij against good competition tomorrow, and I reckon he, too, will have declined.

They need to forget Wout and go all in with Mateo as the leader. I feel like Mateo was holding back waiting for Wout. He should have attacked on the final decisive climb and tried to solo to the finish. Wout is just average right now and is certainly not a topper in the sport.

Niermann, who's not a doctor, talks Laporte's "illness" -
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...mer-european-champion-remains-unable-to-train
"There is a big question mark around Christophe," Niermann admits. "He has been ill for a while. He is not super ill, but because of the virus he cannot train at the moment. I am not a doctor, but apparently there is no treatment for it either."

Further big news is the Control Room van will be parked in Den Bosch -
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...nnounce-changes-to-controversial-control-room
"After evaluating things over the winter, we concluded that the added value of the control room during races is limited, so you won’t be seeing much of it anymore. However, the concept remains, and the bus will now be stationed at our High Performance Center in Den Bosch. There, we have all the necessary technology and strong connections at our disposal."
As ASO banned the vehicle from the Tour it's not surprising- see https://www.cyclingweekly.com/racin...room-barred-from-tour-de-france-accreditation
...Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) released a statement, noting: "The Team Visma-Lease a Bike 'control room' vehicle shall not be authorised within any of the premises of the event and shall therefore not bear a vehicle acceditation".

Their dominance was exaggerated, and their alleged "downfall" is as well. They were performing above their pay grade. Now some of the relevant people have moved to places where they actually can make some proper money, and it shows. The most important of them being Merijn Zeeman. People on here think Plugge is the mastermind behind Visma but he's not. Never has been. It has always been Zeeman. It makes sense that when he's no longer there the team loses some of its purpose, some of its drive.

Little chat about Matthew Brennan's 2 victories at the 100 Communes over the weekend - sports director Robert Wagner talks,
https://cyclinguptodate.com/cycling...ust-not-forget-that-he-is-still-only-nineteen
Wagner also spoke about Brennan’s balanced approach to his development, acknowledging that despite his breakthrough at WorldTour level, he remains committed to gaining valuable experience in the under-23 ranks.

"Matthew has already shown himself at the highest level but also indicated that he wants to ride in the Development Team races. He realizes that he can still learn a lot at this level. This illustrates his ambition to improve constantly."

"Matthew has been part of the WorldTour team since this season, but we must not forget that he is still only nineteen," Wagner added. "It's good for both him and the team that he competes in U23 races like this. He's one of the biggest talents out there, and he proves it time and time again. We can look back on a perfect weekend."

This team is in utter shambles since Rog left.
We like to talk about safety and all but this was a clear cut case where the team should have pulled Jonas out of the race. Had it been the TdF maybe it is worth the risk, but a PN?
They have a guy like Campenaerts who said he thought Jonsa was disoriented. Did he speak up? Was he ignored? These are relevant questions when it comes to safety.

I'm the only one to think Visma riders, in general, are doing mediocre climbing performances this year?
Vingegaard - worst spring shape since 2021
Matteo - Similar to last year (looks strong but he went to altitude)
Kuss - nowhere to be seen
Cian - nowhere to be seen
Yates - nowhere to be seen
Keldermann - nowhere to be seen
Wout - clearly in his worst shape ever.
The only good news is their setup in TTs look better compared to last year.

Yates was decent today. His first race. Could be a slow build up before Giro. Will wait and see how he goes in Catalunya.

I will say that the still photos I've seen of Wout in the last few days, show someone who is getting much lighter.
