I believe Jumbo have a 'group of experts' who analyse every one of their riders crashes with an aim of reducing future crashes and aiding recovery.
Not sure if Van Barle is the perfect subject or just gives them nightmares.

I don't think they have a team of crash experts, they're just trying to optimize performance, and not being able to ride at all is clearly not optimal. Something about this team trying out stuff rubs people the wrong way, of course until it works and every other team follows suit.

still better than hurt your head, shoulder will heal up

Isn't that how you fracture shoulder blades instead?

tbh I don't know about shoulder blades because that's a fairly rare injury in the amateur ranks, ime. That injury probably indicates you need to consider carrying more than 3% bf.

I believe this is why so many break their collarbones.

I believe landing on your outstretched hand (catching your fall) often breaks the collarbone, as well as the scaphoid. A direct blow to the collarbone is unlikely. Yes, wrist takes longer to heal/has more complications. Snapping collarbone actually makes you faster since your shoulder will heal 1cm closer to your neck.

It is peculiar with the amount of illness in the team, while Vinge and Van Aert is also looking subpar at the moment.

The guy who broke the news (Raymond Kerckhoffs from Wielerflits) seems to expect they'll be gradually growing their commitment. Now I don't know how objective he is, somehow he thinks this news is just about the best thing to happen to cycling since the invention of the wheel, but apparently this is just the start.
