Can TJ get enough time on Vandy in the TT to obtain 4th overall in the end? Nice ride today to get himself in 5th.

He can. Certainly not out of the question. I wouldn't put money on it if you gave me even odds, but it's something to watch on Saturday.

Huge Tour by TJVG, coming of age. Has never been close to this level previously, but I have probably been a bit harsh in judging him. Credit to him.

+1
I've been one of those who always shot down anyone picking Tejay for GC of a mountainous stage race, as before this Tour we only had his performance on the Alpe in Dauphine 10 to look to. He's been very impressive this Tour.

Let's see, he put 2:03 on Vandy in 41 km so would need 2:37 in a 53 km tt. But I'm sure by the third week all other results might be obsolete.

Yeah, but it's not like we have anything else to go on.

I've just come home from a holiday so I haven't really see him ride, I only knew he was high in the standings. Today he was among the best climbers, and his TT is amazing. I wonder if BMC will bet on him next year for the Tour.(If they don't replace Evans)

It'll be interesting to see how he copes with Schleck, Contador and a whole bunch of others who crashed out of GC this year.(Valverde, Gesink, S. Sanchez) He surprised me(looking at his past results) in this Tour, so why not aim for a podium spot next year.(If he keeps progressing like this)

I think what may be missing from a lot of discussions is that this same course that favors Wiggins, is also tailor made for TVG as well. The mountain stages don't have very many brutal, or undulating sections. Lots of long rolling climbs. Not many MTF's. The queen stages have been rather moderate. And the TT distances are good. Plus, he's been riding in Cadel's shadow, which has all been perfect for him.

If the Tour goes back to a course like last year, and TVG is a team leader, I don't know that he'll fare as well. But he's young, so who knows.

It's a good course for him, but let's be fair, he's performed far beyond expectations. People pretty much handed the white jersey to Steven "Rabofail" Kruijswijk beforehand. He's going to be 5th (or, if he does a really good TT, even 4th) in his second Tour. That's just amazing.

None of the climbs themselves have been excessively brutal, but that's the Tour de France. The race has still been hard enough. It saw Evans and Menchov falter, and of course a few other guys but that was mainly due to crashes.

Don't forget that Taaramae and Poels were the other two favorites, and Pinot and TJVG were just dark horses.

Poels crashed out and the other two have lost over an hour each.

Taaramae has just returned from mono, Kruijswijk crashed hard. There are reasons for all of them failing, but I don't think they'd have finished ahead of Tejay regardless.

TJ has had is fair share of luck as well. His bad day came early on when he was dropped on a cat3 but bridged back on the descent. If that had happened yesterday he would be blown away. Great ride from him overall though, will be interesting to see how he goes in the TT.

Tejay has a really good chance of winning his home race the usa pro cycling challenge. Are there enough TT kilometres in the race?

Tejay dedicated his white jersey to the victims of the Colorado shooting. Nice guy!

I bet none of the dead nor their relatives even know who Tejay is.

Why can't sport just be about sport?

He seems like a nice guy indeed. I've never been super impressed with TJVG but he has definitely been the surprise of the Tour for me. Yeah, a lot of things went his way but he was impressive non the less.

Why can't you stop being so negative? I think your comment is more about me posting it and your trolling attempts than what tejay did.

Why would I want to troll anything with Tejay? He's a great rider - it's not his fault that his team PR guys have cajoled him in to silly dedications.

And people in Northern Colorado get really freaked out
that **** like this happens here, and happens regularly.
TJ is in a position to help folks regain some calm,
and feel connected to something good about humanity.

He's a class act, and nothing about him is acting!

He lives in the same town I do...this tragedy feels very close to home..it's very wrenching to see. He did a totally classy thing because it has impacted his mind.

Can't believe your comment...you do not need to know people personally to have empathy.

Yeah, why indeed can't sport be about sport--- and not about the money involved or rioting and deaths by over - rabid fans, blah blah???

NIce effort on the ITT. Not enough to wrest 4th, but still, not too shabby. The guys has a lot of years in front of him to show - or squander - his increasing potential. Time will tell but I'm rooting for him!
