Listening to his then fiance tell an nice old couple at the top of the 2011 Baldy stage that he will be charging for autographs after they rode together up the stage to watch the finish put me way off this guy. Joking or not; the look on their faces. wow.

but objectively i think he is a top talent and he conducts himself in a dignified manner in interviews and as a teammate.

There is more in him so I say no not overrated

His punctured team leader (Cadel) begged him for a wheel ... from about a couple of yards away.

TJ swung his head in the opposite direction, apparently pretending not to hear.

When interviewed after the race, TJ could barely explain his actions.

Bad mistake young boy; putting your personal ambitions before your Team Leader is Not Acceptable :( Hope he Learned something!!!

We need to clear this up, Tejay is in the white jersey. Yes, Cadel is the leader but with yellow looking less likely for the team, they do not want to squander their chances for white. Cadel simply said, "Cadel Puncture, Cadel Puncture", it was not Tejay. What Tejay did or did not do is a non-story.

I voted maybe. As discussed it does depend on whom you ask.

I put some coments on BMC thread.

TJ has plenty of potential as a stage racer. GTs? yet to be confirmed but he seems to be a very good prospect and he can do a mean ITT.

As a domestique/team rider he has a bit to learn...he is young so perhaps he will learn. There is the prospect that domestique duties will pass him by shortly and there will be a lesson (or two) lost...see his tack effort and mtn domestique work for instruction.

While I think he can make it and soon, one can refer to Gesink and Kreuziger for as yet unfulfilled expectations.

He needs to jump to a much better team (Garmin). BMC have proven to be pretty incompetent with all of the talent they do have. I still cannot understand how Cadel pulled it off last year.

BMC have had illness issues. I understand that broken bones and internal injuries are more dramatic however illnesses are no less debilitating.

Le Tour 2011 was, decimating crashes aside, a very different race from 2012. The mountains are less demanding, the ITT much longer and probably less technical. But more importantly SKY are super strong and have two GC riders in peak form and performance. There is much contention but I agree with the view that Alberto, Andy and Frank, present, in top form and 2012 would be of yet a different complexion.

In Your Opinion it is a non story. Cadel still has a good chance to podium and overall podium > white. Except for one stage TJ seems to be more concerned with his white than his leaders placement IMO.

If TJVG does well again on stage 17 and stage 18. He really has a potential as a future GT contender. He is only 23!!!

In any case I think everyone here is making a lot of assumptions about where he'll end up in the standings, whether he's stronger than Cadel, and what his frame of mind was on Sunday. Lets just see what happens in the next 2 stages.

It's a story. Obviously Cadel was not happy and it was the wrong thing to do, otherwise Cadel would have clarified it on the next day interview. Hope everything is clear with Cadel and the team by now.

Tejay needs to mature, he needs to pay his dues. I don't blame him at all for what he did, it's part of his growing and human nature. Helping Cadel is the best way to get the white jersey. If he's there with him, it's likely he's with the best GC riders as well. Ask Pierre Rolland.

I would've certainly said Teejay was overrated before this TDF, but he's doing well now; let's see if he can keep the climbing up for another two difficult mountain stages.

nice TJVG won the white today, unless he cracks big time tomorrow.
Proved me wrong and didn't fade in the third week.
Could do very well in the last TT.

Because I think he thinks there is no way Evans could win or even podium if Evans keep climbing like that, so protecting Evans is no longer his No1 priority on his check list. Protecting his white jersey and getting a as high as possible GC position for himself become his top goal.

Of course I could be wrong, this could be just an honest mistake. Or maybe he will keep riding for Evans due to the management pressure. I am sure they will have a long team meeting tonight.

TJ today did not bother helping Evans at all, I knew I was right. LOL

Another impressive day by Teja. As a captain he would have been easily 4th in the GC! Rider of the Tour in my book!

well yeah but it would have been hard for BMC to ask tejay to leave cadel for himself on la toussiere.
I think he can manage a 5th by beating zubeldia in the TT.
Just hoping he keeps it all together tomorrow.
Watch out for him in future years.

And he shouldn't have. Evans had BMC guys around him. Tejay hanging back to help Evans wouldn't really have accomplished anything other than losing a bunch of time himself.

yep he can possibly take 2 min, 1 min easily from zubeldia, and he is not that far off from JVDB either, only 2,09.

If he can keep it together tomorrow, and have a fantastic 50KM TT, I can see him jumping to 4th.
